KITE STUDIO's STICK TO
STICK FITTINGS
Typically used to connect two or more of the
kite's spars together. These include Leading Edge
Fittings, Whisker or Stand-off fittings, Spar Clamps,
Tinkertoys, Pushers, Ferrels, Dihedrals, and Kite
Studio's own custom fittings.
|
CUSTOM STICK
to STICK FITTINGS: |
-
Machined Tee's -
Machined ABS part used for joining sticks
90 degrees apart. Most common use was for
center tee fitting in stunt kites.
- Machined
Pushers -
The fitting is very similar to the tee
except the vertical stick is
perpendicular to the horizontal hole
|
- Bobby
Two Holes - Similar
in function to the Machined Tee, except
much more sophisticated
- Tinkertoys -
ABS or UHMW discs with holes for sticks
around the outside edge.
|
|
STOCK STICK to STICK FITTINGS: |
- Leading
Edge
- They have a
pre-formed angle but are slightly
flexible, a super fitting.
-
Whisker
to Spar - These fittings
are often found on the stunt kites lower
spreader connecting to the whisker. They
can also be used in single line kites,
often found on box kites.
|
- Spar
Clamps -
Use two clamps and one rivet to hold
together 2 sticks at any angle you like.
-
Dihedrals -
These have a fixed dihedral angle of
about 30 to 32 degrees.
- Ferrels -
Ferrels are used to join two sticks
together

LEADING EDGE FITTINGS:
APAs come in a regular and micro size. They have a
pre-formed angle but are slightly flexible, a super fitting. The
FSD are not pre-formed but very flexible for solid fiberglass,
micro graphite, and linear graphite sticks. See matrix for sizes
available.

WHISKER TO SPAR
Similar
to Kite Studio's Machined Pusher, these fittings are often found
on the stunt kites lower spreader connecting to the whisker.
These fittings can also be used in single line kites, Kite makers
often use them on box kites, to
attach the spreader to the longeron. The APA is most popular.

SPAR CLAMPS
Exact
same parts as used on sails except you use two clamps and one
rivet to hold together 2 sticks at any angle you like. Vinyl
tires can be glued on to the sticks to provide stops. Bobby
Stanfield especially likes this method for his various eddy and
tri-d-box kites.

DIHEDRALS
Four
stock sizes, color coded. The stock ones have a fixed dihedral
angle of about 30 to 32 degrees. This means if you center the
dihedral, as in an eddy or diamond kite, you get a 15 to 16
degree angle on both sides. Another use for dihedrals would be on
the wings of a tri-d-box for a 30 degree wing uplift.
