I need to attach the bridle and fly it. The weather here in Portland is 33 and snowing today but there is hope in the next few days.
I think it came out OK...nothing fancy but I learned allot from the project.
From another angle.
Now to convince my wife I need to sew a BOL. For the grand kids...yeah, that's right, for the grand kids at the beach. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. _________________ Ron

Good job, should fly from the hand and reel back into the hand.
I like kites like that saves all that wandering about and long line launches.
In the end how did you do the centre tunnel???? just curios _________________ Trevor

I don't remember which one of your guys gave me the advice but I sewed all three large pieces together in the center making a tunnel a little wider than twice the diameter of the center rod, and use one of the two tunnels for the rod.
I made some caps that are like the pekr caps ($.10 VS $2.00) and with small eyelets in reinforced tabs in the tips, threaded shock cord through all three and then to the pekr. They keep the tension perfect and they are white like the frame.
There are some little things I wish I had done differently now that it is done...like sewing the tabs on the inside so they can't be seen rather than the outside but I am pretty happy with how it turned out.
I guess that's ow we learn...by making mistakes.
I sure got confused putting it all together though...I made allot of drawings so I could figure it out. _________________ Ron

Nice looking kite. It should be lots of fun. I agree on the bol, but make two so you can have races. A lot of my ground display stuff, ( Spikey, Teepee, Bols,) act as children attractors for me. That way my kids will have instant friends and not complain about being at the beach all day while I fly kites My two tend to take charge explaining the rules for Spikey and the Bol races to any one that shows up and that keep them happy |

You basically tie a Bol to the rear belt loop of each of two contestants (or to a belt with a d-ring made for the purpose, or a vest is best) so that the Bols act like drag parachutes in a short sprint race. Works best to set up the "track" so they are running in to the wind.
Good times. _________________ Simon

With big enough bols or high enough wind you can really have drag races...........
Almost forgot to say...Well Done _________________ Pete

I whole heartedly agree and also to keep them from crossing paths, ( imagine a pile of arms legs and bridle lines.) I keep a set of small oraqnge cones, ( like for soccer practice etc.) in the bag and set up two cones at the start and finish line for each bol. Making sure they are far enough apart so the runners don't cross paths

A saw a bol race once where there was some ground swirl and buffeting, so, although the organizers did their best to point them in to the wind, it was somewhat comical to watch the tangles and the kids getting pulled off course (launching kites wasn't all that easy either...) _________________ Simon

Bol race
I thought you tie them to the front of a sled and put a kids on each one
first one across the lake wins
but you could also race them back your way _________________ Have a fun filled day

What is a good size BOL to start with? I can't see making a real large one...my four grand kids will be between age 6 and 4 this summer. I don't want them to wind up in Japan. _________________ Ron
