Kite Studio will be running tests this Spring on all spars. We will report on weight and stiffness in an easy to read graph similar to THIS An update to this graph is a long time coming. If there is anything else you would like to see us test or report on, please let me know. I only want to do this once.

It would be phenomenal if you could include all of the Avia, Beman, Dynamic, Revolution, Skyshark and Structil rods for a complete comparative data set, but I suspect time and money are a couple constraints that would limit such a task. Also, getting data for fiberglass rods would be very instructive, I think.
Barring the completion of that option, I think the most significant thing to incorporate would be the exact dimensions and specifications of the testing apparatus, so that some of us could duplicate the setup and add data from rods that we have or use. Maybe you could "market" the testing machine, to establish a testing standard that everyone would use. Cool

(I'll take a 2% royalty for creating the idea. That should add up to $3 or $4 a year!)

I've got a lot of old beman spars I could send ya but not in the full length. I only have light 14's in full length. I'm sure there's others who could help supply some other odd brands for the comparison.

I hate to present you with a can of worms, but could you ask Bill Bigge for his comments at MKS.

He is NOT online...

I am sure he may have some ideas and some 9 decimal places thoughts on the testing methods/tools and some other data tests to conduct....

Also I would like to see the data sorted by Grams Per Meter as well as sorted in Relative Stiffness??

I think that you may have to have two or more weights and a conversion factor for tesing say a 0.040" Carbon rod compared to a SkyShark P300 or the Revolution Super Leading Edge for a stack, which is STIFF or your Large Diamated Carbon Tubes you carry........

Also could you chart the diamater of circle that the parts fail at.........

PLEASE test as many tubes and rods that you can!!!!!!!

WORMS ,WORMS ,WORMS, Squid said CAN of WORMS. I just saw my name in Steves post. I HATE WORMS. I have a suggestion though,Squid talkes to Mr. Biggie and relays the information. Thru a dynamic filter we(Steve and I ) will formalize a procedure.Harold, maybe a weekend at your house with Mr. Biggie is ample time to obtain the criteria needed. Any additional thoughts will be appriciated.

While you're at it, how about testing bamboo and hardwood, sorted by species and diameter.

Just kidding. Sounds like you'll have your hands full!

HI Stan , Wood is a tuffy.Your suggestion although is a good one that I think deserves thought. Perhaps limited types, dowels and some square stock? !/4 in ,5/16 in dowels are popular sizes. First thought about the peices tested would be to select ones that look to have good visible grain. Dont know if you have used a lot of dowels but if you buy 10 you may get 6 or 8 that are acceptable for reliable kite use. Although they are uniform in diameter the hardness and stiffness vary a great amount. Just some quick thoughts.
