Novice Kitebuilders
Kites made by persons who have never won an award (first, second, or third place) in any kite category or a Special Award in a National Kitemakers' Competition at an AKA Convention are eligible for this category of awards. All persons who qualify as novice kitemakers and who do not receive a first, second, or third place awards in any of the other categories automatically qualify for this award. The total competitive scores in all competitive categories of all kitemakers who meet the above criteria and declare themselves to be novices will be ranked, and awards will be presented to the novice kitemaker with the top total score. (After receiving an award in this category, a kitemaker will no longer be considered a novice.)
