OK, THEN LETS GO BACK TO THE BEGINNING AND GO THRU STEPS 1 & 2 FOR CREATING AN ORIGINAL CELL KITE:

1st Step - THINKING:

We already talked about Daydreaming in 3D with a pad & pencil, not to scale or to scale model building, which is a very, very good thing, and free hand sketching of all views of your ideas.

By the way, the kind of thinking I’m talking about here is dimensional or structural, NOT PRETTY, pretty is a fancy appliqué or a ROYGBIV graphic. PRETTY comes LATER, about one minute before building, which is why flat sail builders get way to much credit for originality; of coarse my flat sail, special color shaded, multi-media specialist, Son Steven , the head judge, he doesn’t agree with me so what do I know...

Try to imagine aerodynamic shapes... Stretch and pull shapes you like to make them more you... more artsy then the originals, or better yet, more functional, say like adding a wing for more lift which leads right to step #2.

2nd Step - ENGINEERING OR DESIGN:

Most important step - most neglected step - most misunderstood step.

So now, from the thinking step you have a vision of an aerodynamic shape you like and think will FLY...

Time to prove it on paper, and then later you will build it and then ultimately prove it or disprove it in the air.

By the way, failure is not always a bad thing, I mean trust me when you spend 30 days building a kite and it fails, you don’t ever go there again. Perfect example - Heavenly  Bodies; and, Blue Star?? If you never fail you are not going far enough to the edge and consequently are not designing very original or efficient flying machines.

So where do we start the Engineering/Design Step?

  1. STICK FIRST
  2. FITTING SECOND
  3. SKIN/GRAPHICS LAST

Where have we seen this list before? Way back at the beginning in the build phase step #3...However, LOOK CLOSE, its in REVERSE...

The Obvious Lesson... We must design in the reverse order that we build.

We must design in the reverse order that we build.

We must design in the reverse order that we build.

DID YOU GET IT YET????????:
