Steve and Tony Ferrel, began
Kite
Studio in the
summer of 1989. Well known throughout the kiting
community, their store is recognized as the
FIRST premier
source for all kitebuilding supplies and information.
Occupying two buildings that cover over 2,300 square
feet, Kite Studio is a kite builders paradise. Everyone
is welcome to stop by for a visit to rummage through the
bins, shelves, and boxes for every kind of kite supply
imaginable.
Flat Kites are Steve's
specialty. He enjoys appliqué and tries different
approaches in layering to create his own style. In 1997
he made and donated the kite pictured below ("Tern
into a Dolphin") to the American Kitefliers Association for their
annual auction. A one-of-a-kind kite that brought the AKA a
whopping $1,300.00.

In addition to selling supplies
for kites, banners, models, and other markets, Steve has
been involved in creating unique fabric structures. Some
of these projects included jobs for: Eric Clapton, Mariah
Carey,
Woodstock 94 and the
Spin Doctors. His contributions to kite clubs have been
numerous. Including serving on board of directors for the
American Kitefliers Association, chairing
the AKA Kite Making Competitions Committee, Head Judge
for AKA's National Convention since 1997, and providing
judging services for festivals all over
the country.
Away from work Steve likes
adventuring with his dog Bayta. He enjoys long hikes in the woods,
horseback riding, bicycling, home remodeling, reading, cooking, tasting wines,
IPA's, and occasionally relaxing with a fine cigar.
