Final Assembly
1. Use black 80# Dacron line to make loops to attach wing tips to main sail. Loops should be sized to provide approximately 1¼” between wings to main sail.
2.
Outer wing tip loops must pass through 2540 end
caps. Size loop to provide approximately
1” from wing tip to end cap. (See detail “A” below).
3.
2 aluminum eyelets at bottom of main sail are for
bungee tensioning cord. Pass bungee cord through 2540 end cap. Pass bungie
through aluminum eyelets and knot bungee enough to prevent pull through. Bungee
must have sufficient tension for sail and enough free play to remove from spar.
4.
Measure vertical pocket add 3½“ to length. Cut
both ¼“ dowels to half that dimension. Epoxy ferrule onto one end of dowel and
insert in top of pocket. Install second dowel and attach end cap.
5.
Epoxy 2540 ferrule to one of the 48” rods. half
insertion.
6.
With all loops installed, attach 1800 end caps to
both sides of loops between panels and wing tips. Install 1800 full length rods
in a criss-cross fashion between upper and lower end caps on front and rear
panels. With 1800 rods installed slide
2540 rods through diagonal hole in back panel. (The ferrule should be glued to one
of the 2540 rods using 50% insertion into the ferrell.) Two people should hold
tension on the kite wing tips while holding the 2540 rods next to the 2540 end
caps for marking the needed cut length. Make sure the ferrule is centered at
the spine. Insertion depth in the 2540 end cap is approximately ¾“.
7.
A 2 point-bridle approximately 12’ long is attached
at left and right upper wing tip end caps. Kite lines article has elaborate
4-point bridle --- not needed. As wind speed increases attack angle will change
and dump wind.
