Grand-Son
of Woodstock:
1. Make
patterns on oak tag (do NOT cut patterns out), spray with #75, and let dry.
Refer to pages 7 to 13 (available through Plan Contents)
2. Put
fabric pieces on pattern, lightly cut with utility knife on the edge lines, put
on insignia re-enforcement’s, bind, & MARK sew lines; remove from pattern
& sew binding and insignia re-enforcement’s if you want to impress the
judges (Modified
Bobby Stanfield Method )
3. Join
together, using Fore sew schedule, page 5 & 6, all internal sews for 3
front 1/3 sections
4. Add
pockets to forward sections for short longerons & do Gibian tensioner
devices at TT, LLB, & RRB intersections
5. Join
front sections & tail sections to wings, add Gibian loops & then 2 top
longeron sleeves. This is possible by folding entire kite to outside of sew
machine needle
6. Join
LRB - RLB intersection and tail bottom intersection, add Gibian loops (4), one
on each end & 2 in the middle, & then last sew 2” dacron sleeve to fore
& aft sections. Very last add a loop at a angle for rear bridle attachment
being very careful to NOT sew the longeron sleeve shut
7. Sewing
should now be complete on main structure
8. Cut
& bind rotator parts if not already done. Sew together except for last
joiner seam, add points, add pockets, make last joiner seam, add the last point
and the last pocket. repeat for each rotator
9. Build
spine
10. Cut
& install small rotator longerons, assemble small rotator (length of cross
sticks are determined by
trial & error), start
long & cut a little from each stick till you get it right and all the
sticks are the same length
11. Assemble
large rotator using same method as small rotator. In addition add 6 tensioner
beads or micro beads and 50# dacron line to put tension between fore and aft
rotator sections thereby keeping the longerons in their pockets
12. Install
2 top longerons with adjustable screw ends, and 1 bottom longeron with
adjustable screw ends and bead tensioner, on the main skin
13. Insert
spine with all rotators attached into the center of the main skin and install 1
fore bottom & two 116 degree wing
cross sticks
14. Insert
aft bottom stick and two sets of two 116 degree wing cross sticks, add tail
horizontal spreader stick, & then the top rudder stick
15. Using
wing adjusters snug up tensions
16. Go
back to front of kite and add two long corner cross sticks & one top cross
stick using beads to provide final tension
17. To
each of the 6 whisker cells, add a set of whiskers, being careful to not
puncture sail accidentally
18. Add
bridle
