Yes, I'm going. I want to enter the Kichi Taco.

But...I'm entered in at least five flying events at MASKC. I hope we have the schedules flexible enough so that I can enter the kite between events.

Because...as I understand it...no proxies! Right, Steve?

Thanks for clearing that up. By the way, can you help me understand the reasoning behind this part of the MIKE rules: "Any kite that has placed previously in an AKA Nationals competition may not be entered."

Well.... AKA rules state the following:

4. Kites or essentially identical copies of kites, that have won any prize in kite or special award categories in AKA National Kitemakers' Competitions at previous AKA Conventions are not eligible to compete in subsequent National Kitemakers' Competitions.

The winner of the MIKE event will get a paid registration and invitation to the next AKA convention. I would like to see the winner of MIKE be eligible to compete at AKA.

My personal thoughts about this rule is that it is a good one. I want to encourage creativity and divirsity in design and I like to see different kites each year. It is also nice to see a design improved upon. Mike, your Tacho Kitchi is a perfect example. You won with an intital design one year and then improved upon it, and competed a year later.

I see MIKE (and Smithsonian) as the beginning of the competition season for kitemaking. A chance for kitebuilders to bring out their new creations for the year and a chance for us to view what they created over previous the winter months.

I wouldnt want the 2004 competiton look the same as 2003!
