3..4 year's ago I began to make airdolphin from 6 micron film trashbag.
Now I make #119th airdolphin and can speak one’s mind: very interesting
kite.
It's easy (4m airdolphin is 100g in weight), strong to wind 10...15m/s ,
running repairs with scotch tape (welding by making) and operator is in control of the situation by flying or air swiming airdolphin from a distance 1...100m and same high (airdolphin surf: airdolphing?) only by single line(!). What can I add? Valve for air in head link with tail by line and airdolphin can fly across air stream or make spring, do not warry lose pressure inside balloon, but by beat air can go to the outside.
Why dolphin?
When my 12y. o.daughter booked me it, I don't understood, haw it made. Now I don't understand, why other do not make so very interesting kite.
See my "www", translate by Google from Russian, see video, photo and
asking questions me!

Is this the airdolphin? Very nice! You can make him jump like a dolphin in the water? _________________ TTFN,

Many thanks for link translate my"www" on http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=ru&u=http://mikheev-nikolai.narod.ru/index.htm
Garble translation is encumbrance and so I sketched in the details airdolphin (see photo):
1-snout with swivel for launching line(for fishing) d=0,6mm, armature PET-bottle band b=13mm with 2layer polythene 6mic;
2-valve , cylinder L=500mm polythene 6mic;
3-valve returning line,link with tail by thread (for fishing) d=0,5mm;
4-casing, polythene 6mic HD {trashbag 35litre:(980x560mm)x[16+3(fins)+1(valve)]pieces};
5-strengthening, polypropilen 20micron with "Al"-smooth surface to keep warm
from sun. From below of the casing - piece 200x4000mm and from 3 other sides -
triangular pieces 150x2000mm.Polypropilen roll film (0.7x1000m) I purchased
in factory for $60.
If add scotch tape ( h=10mm l=11m )x3piece (welding seam -"polythene+polypropilen",
"fins+casing" and "snout+casing" needs in strengthenings) then cost of stuff for airdolphin is $2(!), but...32h I expend on handwork!
I is researching "airdolphin's subject" from "0" with keen interest.Now everyone
can join in that: makes airdolphin on the model of my last or purchases mine for $100 (as my old-age pension) and advances farther. Good luck!
P.S Best birthday (22.01.46) present for me - photo your airdolphin ( )! How my frands speak in jest, I must work off for sitting 25 years in some research organization. Then I can display it them. |

Thanks Nikolai
Spesebo Bolshoi
Your sketch and translation give good information.
Some questions?
The Valve link line (4) What does it do?
Have you a sketch of the Valve?
Do you pre inflate and let the sun warm and lift her? or does wind help inflate? _________________ Best Regards

Very simple and effective valve - paket without bottom, one its edge attaches to
armature ring of the snout,other - to line 3 inside casing by scotch.
Work: 1-wenn I pull launching line, air inside balloon still immobile and press
on tail of the casing- valve is opening(crumpled paket is aligning by line 3) and air suck inside balloon ( by Bernulli's law - motion air outside balloon and still air
inside- pressure bigger inside and move apart casing); 2-wenn wind blow:as by"1":
3-more importantly, wenn 1 or 2 stopped: valve is closed (paket is crumpled);
4-but by the beat air can go to the outside (paket to spit out and then,by 1 or 2, go inside). Simple? For kites that is excellent - do not warry lose pressure inside balloons of the platform by still wind. But who know that? To valve I crawl as Edison...
Do you pre inflate and let the sun warm and lift her? or does wind help inflate?
Airdolphin inflates itself even if still wind! By Bernulli's law -case 2!
Wenn wind 0,then 2m-hose D=400mm (trashbag, of course!) help me inflate by wavy movement for 3min .
Now snout is bigger and I can instead hose apply itself casing .
Wenn inflate by mouth inside will be condensation (in winter snow!). |

wonderfull, Nikolai
One more question when the wind is 0
does the airdolfine fly by itself, like a hot air balloon? _________________ JC
