Don't know where else to post photos to, so I'll put mine beneath the instructor's, and invite comment/criticism/laughter. Took a while to get 'er done, but on its first test flight it took off easily and flew solidly, with no adjustments. Good instructions, Boxkites!

I was wondering when I would see some more pictures, thanks for posting these. I like the use of colours in both your kites and in your tails.

There's nothing here to laugh about or to criticise only one comment to make. Place some larger diameter rods in the two leading kites. This has been discussed in one of the threads. It will prevent the first kites from bending too much in stronger winds.
Great job twelvewinds, any plans to grow this?

Yup, I had the same thought exactly about re-sparring the front kite or two.
Gotta admit, I doubt that this will grow because I wasn't having a lot of fun building it. All the measuring and folding and hemming just isn't my style. Good practice, and I'm glad I did it, learned plenty of new skills, but that's all. Besides, I rarely have helpers except for my dog, so bigger trains become unmanageable. The one I flew at the AKA Convention that got 3rd place hasn't been flown again, because I don't have 5 helpers to get it airborne. |

Nice one Grant, did you skimp on tail length? Seems to still fly ok.
Great use of colours as well. Nice addition to your bag.

Robert | Ha Ha, Made me look, ( well measure actually!) No, they are 350cm. At first I had problems because one corner on the middle orange kite had a slipped bridle ring, ( about 60cm slipped ) but once that was adjusted it flew well. It really reacted to the gusts but it was pretty gusty out and the wind in the park where I was flying was far from clean air, ( but it had a great playground for the kids ) |

At lastI've managed to fly the train
I'm very pleased with the result as this was my first train and the first class on line that I have attempted. _________________ Trevor

Looking good, small snag on one of the tails but it isn't that important.
Any plans on increasing the train?

Life is full of snags
Yes I'm thinking of making the pilot first and then find some more colours with shades like the green & blue. E.G. pink to red to crimson to orange to lemon to yellow, that sort of thing then I can shade the tails the same as on this six, divide the tail into six then the shades of the tail follow the order of the kites, starting with the colour of the kite. Gives the tails a sort of diagonal theme. _________________ Trevor

I just wanted to say thank you for putting together a great project. WHile I was not part of the original class the instructions and posts were tops. I was able to pull the project off without any trouble. That is saying something as this is my 1st try at actually building a kite let alone sewing. Not sure my wife is to happy about sharing the machine
here is a photo of the Kite:
again thanks _________________ **********************************

I like the way the pink segment marches around anticlockwise as it goes up the line of kites.
Nice looking project. When your wife is not looking, go ahead and make another one of the online projects. They are all great, and you will learn a lot!
Again, congratulations for a great looking kite. _________________ [

me too. And the pink remains "stationary" on the tail. It all works great together.... Beautiful job Jim. Can't wait to see the next one. _________________

Nice job Jim, especially as it seems you have not made a kite before. Well done, you are well on your way to become one of many who get great pleasure out of their hobby. learning how to sew is one of the best things you can teach yourself. Keep up the good work and you can always get your own machine if your wife is not about sharing.

This has been 95% complete for over a year now. Finally this weekend I set aside my endless list of jobs to do and descended to my workshop. It was a great flying day. http://www.fototime.com/9CCE1AF1C0555BE/orig.jpg _________________ Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world. |

Distance is as per plan (92 cm). They look closer because of the angle of the pic. _________________ Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world. |
