Oh boy you guys are making me jealous!
Earlier this year I told my wife that I wanted to go to the Strawberry Fields Fly in St. Thomas, the Canada Day Fly in Waterloo and the Toronto Kite Festival and so far due to health problems and the cost of gas I have made none of them .
We could stay with kiting friends from the Royal City Fun Fliers and travel in to TO each day but we need to get to Guelph first. Oh well, maybe next year.
Have fun guys and fly one for me . _________________ Larry Green

Any truth to the rumor that this may well be the last of these festivals due to loss of sponsorship, or least future ones will not be as lavish as they have been in the past?

It's not been confirmed nor has the nail been put in the coffin... But it has been clearly communicated to the kite community that the co-organizers (non-kiters) are suffering from organizational fatigue. Where there used to be a full committee of volunteers, and now it's one chairperson with a PR/promotional agency doing all of the work.
With all the pro bono staff work being done by the PR agency, they were losing money despite the vendor revenues. If they pull out, the event suffers without their assistance and expertise.
"IF" this is the last event with the PR agency involved, there will always be an event put on by the Toronto Kite Fliers despite this. Obviously the scale and scope would not be the same. Nevertheless, we are a forward-thinking and have a couple 'irons in the fire' just for contigency.
So in a nutshell, yes this possibly may be the last of this scale of festival. But we remain hopeful of this year's success.
That being said, it's time for you to visit Toronto! _________________ Weifang06|Berck01,07|WSIKF91-96, 01|Wildwood98,02,14-15|Grand Haven96,02,13|St-Honoré02,08,11-14|Thailand02|Singapore02,13|Dieppe NB02-14|Toronto96-07|Verdun96-98,00|Niagara 05-08|Epcot 95|St-Placide 06-10,12-14|Pac Rim 90-95,07|Houlgate 08|Mots08|Pasir Gudang12|Borneo10-13|Fréjus10|Taiwan13|Dieppe14|Oostende14 |

I am about 3 Hours NW of Toronto, on the shores of Lake Huron. Sounds like I will be going with the old folks, take them out every now and again, now that they are getting all old and yally, or long in the tooth yah might say... _________________ Ok when building line laundry, how big is too big? |

Perhaps as the date gets closer, or one of the Toronto Kite people could suggeste a place to meet on the field so we can get to know some of the other members?
This will be my first kite festival, and I am just getting into the bigger stuff and toys.
I was flying my tribly for the second time today, had a blast. It was really windy, but it held up ok, put on a second sail to the stack, wow what a difference in tension and pull.
Some guy was walking by with his wife and daughter, he asked me some questions. Then I said here, try it yourself, gave him the lines and explained how to do it. He played for a few minutes to get the feel of the response from it. Then I told him to try a loop.
He made it but it came down when he tried to come out of the reverse loop. I put it back in the air and then he played for a few minutes more. You should have seen his face, I thnk he was having fun. _________________ Ok when building line laundry, how big is too big? |

You most certainly will... the field is fairly compact and the fliers tend to gather in one place .. usually the corner closest to the parking... in between the demo field and the single line field.
There was a thread here about making name tags with the kitebuilder.com forums logo and your screen name on it... That would certainly help identify everyone
Cheers,

Something like so? Print and place your name, then duck tape to your forehead.

You're welcome - I had nothing to do with the design.
As for Kite Studio orders, I'll take up your offer! Nothing like kitemaking contraband. _________________ Weifang06|Berck01,07|WSIKF91-96, 01|Wildwood98,02,14-15|Grand Haven96,02,13|St-Honoré02,08,11-14|Thailand02|Singapore02,13|Dieppe NB02-14|Toronto96-07|Verdun96-98,00|Niagara 05-08|Epcot 95|St-Placide 06-10,12-14|Pac Rim 90-95,07|Houlgate 08|Mots08|Pasir Gudang12|Borneo10-13|Fréjus10|Taiwan13|Dieppe14|Oostende14 |

Hi Gary, if this is my first time to the festival, and I am only there for one day (probably Saturday) what would you recommend I should make sure we see? I see the schedual pretty much allows you to see each event?
Is there anything I should keep an eye out for, ie workshops or early bird goodies?
Ok everyone else turn a blind eye, no peeking to classified information now. _________________ Ok when building line laundry, how big is too big? |
