Out of 1275 forum members I owe one of you a huge thank you!
Yesterday I received a very heavy package from Steve F. It contained the fabric he promised for the icons I designed for the auction section of the forum. In addition to Steve's fabric there was a quantity of fabric that apparently a kind hearted soul on this forum had anonymously donated to me .
Whoever you are I would like to thank you for your genorosity. I now have enough fabric to last me a couple of years at least!
Each roll has a minimum of 1-2 yards of material and some have what looks like 8-10 yards on them!
It has been said before (and I fully agree) that the people on this forum make it the best kite related forum in the world. This is yet another example of kiters taking care of their own and being willing to share. Being disabled and on a fixed income buying kite fabric has always been a difficulty for me and I have had to get by with whatever scraps are left over from building kites for friends. Now I have so much fabric I don't know where to start, but I do have some ideas . The kids have even given me orders for new kites despite the fact they rarely fly the ones I have already built for them .
Thanks to Steve for his genorosity and for creating such a great forum in the first place and thanks again to my mystery donor for being the person you are, I really appreciate what you did for me! _________________ Larry Green

Great bunch of folks here Thanks to anonymous for being so generous. Now we all get to look at the colors and try to figure what combinations you will use |

Thanks for the comments Squid, Grant and Cliff I appreciate them.
As to what I will build first well.............
I have a very special Rok I designed way back in January of 2003 that is still waiting to be built as I never had the right colours to build it. I needed several shades of blue, green and brown to do it justice and never seemed to get enough of the right colours to start it (and the brown has proven difficult to source until recently when Steve started stocking it). I now have the blues and greens I can use and I have thought about using 'The Squid's' dying techniques to dye some white in the shades of brown I need many times so that is a possibility. I also have a couple more Roks designed and waiting to be built too.
I was also inspired by this thread a few months ago.....
http://www.kitebuilder.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1958
... and decided that I would design one of my own while waiting for the forum to get started on its project (what happened to that BTW did it just die by the side of the information super-highway?). I designed a sail, then re-designed it, came back to it a while later and changed some things again, then totally reworked it as I wasn't happy with the overall effect. Today I started on it again, from scratch (I am now at v.8 of the design ), as I still wasn't happy with the results. This time I think I am headed in the right direction as this one has a little 'twist' to it . I only have one of the 24 panels designed so far as I decided to give my brain a rest and came to check out the posts on here but I have a feeling this is going to be the first kite from my new fabric stash .
Rest assured that I will give you all a 'blow by blow' account of the build once I get started . I have a feeling the second kite is going to be a Rev copy for my wife seeing as she has already said she wants to build one this year after learning to fly mine last year. Gonna need yet another new kite bag at this rate and I only finished the last one a few days ago . _________________ Larry Green

THIS FORUM ROCKS!
Hey Wizard, (and whomever the generous party is)
How appropriate, to give material to someone with great capacity.
Like giving an instrument to a musician who might not otherwise have one,
who will delight all entertained by the gift!

Thanks String
As it happens I am a musician too and have been drooling over a new fretless, acoustic, bass guitar (a very rare beast) since I first saw it online last summer. One of these days I will get one of those babies in my hot sticky hands . _________________ Larry Green

Thanks Quad.
I intend to enjoy the fabric and the tips will keep rolling out whenever I can make a useful input (no point in spouting useless information ). _________________ Larry Green
