I've just outgrown my carpenter tool box. 30" long x 9" tall X 8" deep. It's a very simple box. One long lift out tray (undivided) and lots of bulk storage under that.
I need to compartmentize and organize. I'd like to keep everything I'd need to make a kite in there.
What do you folks use
Thanks -- Rich _________________ Rich Durant

I keep most of my tools in the LARGEST tackle box I could find. It has dawers with deviders built in.
100% plastic so it wont rust my tools...
Paul LaMasters uses a 5 gallon bucke with a "Bucket boss" in it
Lots of pockets inside and out.... _________________ VR/

My toolbox is an an EMT Medical box from a Fire truck. It's like a fishing tackle box on steroids. It's freaking huge. And being designed for medical supplies, it's got lots of compartments and slots. Plus, the lid can either be opened via a door and you can slid the individual trays out while keeping the lid itself locked, or you can open the top and all the trays will accordian up and out.
Before kite building, I built and played with radio controlled airplanes and monster trucks. This box is the perfect tool box for all of those small modeling tools.
Stop by your local FD or ambulance shop and see if they have any surplus boxes laying around.

I'll check when I get home. I'll take a picture of it too and put it into my album.

Here ya go Squid:
When I was building and playing with the airplanes and trucks, this box would be taken absolutly everywhere with me. It makes a wonderfull pit box.
You can put locks on all the latches and the box is very, very strong. All the trays are quite deep. I have several full size and XL pliers in the bottom tray.

I started out with a tackle box also but soon outgrew that-and what about all the other small stuff. I was thinking of something that would hold all the little packets of this and that, and my choice fell on one of those small storage drawers unit you find in the housewares depts of most department stores.
Made out of plastic material-the frame on mine is black and the drawers are translucent; I find it strong enough for the task, but I wouldn't put a lot of weight on top of it.
The one I chose stands about 90cm tall on four casters, it has a footpring to 32x40cm and 5 drawers. The two top ones are 8cm deep and hold all my small tools, and some small part. The other three are 18cm deep and hold all the other notions, bridle lines, and the rest including my thread box, hot cutters and the like.
I can wheel it about my dining room table, which doubles as my work table most of the time. When I have to clear the deck, I can wheel it out of sight into the den without effort. The only items that are left out are the straight edges which I was thinking of storing in a rack or tube mounted to the back of the drawer stand. Might get around to it, someday. _________________ Don Lord |

If it's plastic, and box shaped, then Plano makes it. I'm sure you will find exactly what your looking for with them.

The even have a section where you can design you own box. That'd be cool. Probably expensive though, but cool.
