I just finished the graphics on my Rok variant that I made during Scott's class at MAKR. It was the first time I used spray glue, ( thanks for all the info Prog ) and I was happy with the ease of sewing. Now I was wondering what everyone uses to get the leftover sticky residue off. I searched through old post and couldn't seem to find an answer. What does everyone use?

PS I'll post photos of the finished kite hopefully in the next couple of days. Want to get it done for the Airwaves Festival Very Happy

Goof Off.
Others will say Goo Gone.
Still others will suggest Orange zest, with a spritz of lime and a dash of Vermouth.

Don't bother with Paint Thinner, it will leave the sail oily. Lighter Fluid (Naptha) might work, but it seems to leave an oily residue on anything I've tried it on. Lacquer thinner might work, but try it on a scrap of material first. Acetone (nail polish remover) might work, but it will probably remove part of the color. Heck, even Rubbing Alcohol might work, if you have some 81% stuff on hand.
And don't do anything to produce a spark, most of these things are flammable, as is (probably) the spray glue you used.

Weird. I only use paint thinner. Cheap, and works very well. I've never noticed any residue.

I am a big fan of Goo gone

and have used it in the washing machine with kites that have a lot of surface area.

Or I spray it on the sail... wait a while... rub with a cloth or low lint papaer towel to remove it... but in hte washing machine is my favorite way of using it...

Used the goo-gone and it worked great. After I was done with the sail, it felt more "Grainy" than sticky. Must be all trhe dust in my basement workshop. The goo-gone got it all off though, ( and the kite made it safely through it's trip in the washing machine.) I ironed it last night and got the spar pockets in. I should have photos in the next couple of days. Thanks for the advice. Very Happy

Hi Grant, Just saw your post . I use a spray product called Brake Clean . It's a product I used in my auto repair center . (sold in auto supply stores) I spray it on a soft rag and whipe the glue off the kite sail. Works good drys instantly. Wont harm your Ripstop. 50 people will jump in and say the stuff will kill you. I say so will too much Pepsi. Use it with caution as you would any chemical.
