After being impressed to hear that Kitesquid had 113 different kite books, I thought it would be great to start a thread to find out what people have out there. You could even add a review or commentary if you wish.

Here's my (current) list. More detail e.g. piccies and isbn numbers can be found http://www.peterbindon.com/Kites/KiteBooks/KiteBooks1.htm ,

Hi Peter,
I like you web page and the photos of the book covers. It's nice seeing the covers rather than just reading the titles. We had a thread a while back about books, ( it will take you quite a while to go through all of the old posts but there is lots of good info in them Very Happy )

HERE
but it's nice to go over it again. You can read through Squid's list and drool over all of the books you would like to add to your collection.

Another question, how does the viking ship fly? I've seen the plan but never one in person.

Grant,

Thanks for the reply and link. I even a quick search before creating the thread as I assumed that someone must have thought about it before. I must get my eyes tested.

Thanks for the feedback on the web pages.

The Viking Ship is definately one for lighter winds as it has a big surface area. I found the plans on a danish site and thought it looked really great. I decided to build it as I hadn't seen one in the flesh and also thought not many others will have done so in the UK. I found out later that it was in a kite book and some had come over from the continent a few years back for a number of festivals. I must finish it off as I want to make a 3D-head for the hull and a flag for the top of the mast.

I have the plans for the boat on my comoputer but wasn't thrilled with it. I am much more impressed now that I have seen photos of your kite and see what it looks like in the air. The head and flag will be nice touches Very Happy

You guys make me feel guilty for not having a database of my books. I have somewhere around 600 to 800 kite books (some dating back to the mid 1800's). I'll take a photo of my bookshelf.

Here is the pic I promised. This represents most of my kite books (some just no longer fit on the bookcase and my wife also tends to steal my books on Chinese and Japanese kites and take them to her studio). There is nothing on this 6'x3'x12" bookshelf but kite books (the stack up top are turn of the last century papers and magazines with kite related articles).

I am a book addict and I've been collecting for a while.

Dave

Kite books, kite plates, kite string, Kite Line winders (Sam Houston!), kite art, kite articles, kites, kite making materials, YOU ARE A KITE ADDICT!!!

Hello, my name is Dave, and I am a kite addict. . . .

I should have typed this with green. I think we are all envious of your passion. Sometimes, it is timing. Like being on the internet at the right time, or being at a raffle with the right ticket, or, just being where it takes to get what you are looking for.

Oh well, some of us spend way too much time typing on forums instead of cruising for kite stuff. Otherwise, we would have more and Dave would have less.

hahaha

knotronda Very Happy
