On July 2nd & 3rd, 2005 the skies over Pincher Creek, Alberta will come alive with hundreds of colourful kites.
Beside the lake and against a backdrop of blue snow-capped mountains,
be prepared to let your imagination soar as kites climb into the crystal-clear air.
This is a day for you and your family to relax and enjoy a unique event, in spectacular surroundings. The Children of the Wind festival is combining with Canada day and the Alberta Centennial to bring you a truely unique Alberta event. As part of the activities there will be custom made, hand-built Rokakku kites with the Alberta Coat-of-Arms flying alongside Maple Leaf kites.
New events are also in the works includeing Candy drops, Bol Races, and new demo fields to help you fly a kite yourself.
Along with new events, this year promises to showcase a wide variety of kites not previously seen. Including a newly built 215 square foot Molar Flowform and a huge, 208 kite, triple tiered, pyrimid kite arch!
And of course, topping off Saturday night will be a fireworks show to rival any other (in this part of the country). It really is a great show of light set off from the beach of the Oldman Resivoir.
Visit the new website here: www.windykids.ca
The site is still in it's early stages, but is being built as fast as possible. Check back often for the last updates.
The Children of the Wind welcomes you into our corner of the country. Come by and fly a kite. It's a good thing!
Cheers,
Terry Thillmann

Well I just couldn't be happier then right now
I have just confirmed John & Marzlie Freeman as guests for the festival this year
So that is a great boost to this years events.
And, even better (for me anyways) is that they will also be attending the Swift Current festival which is one week before our festival. So, to kill some time, I'm taking a vacation and going there too followed by spending the next week flying kites with John and Marzlie and David Tuttle and who knows who else To me, it's worth giving up Dieppe.
I wonder if I should take my sewing machine and some fabric

G'day.
The festival was soooo much fun for me and the kids, that Ray Bethell actually got a little annoyed with me cause I was hogging the field That's just how much fun we had
Check it out: (you can click on the pictures to get a really big, high res version)
The Bear Drops were awesome. Over the two days, we dropped over 50 little animals. And I got to say, if it wasn't for the volunteers who helped (and did most of the work to be honest), this would never have happened.
The 'Bear Crew':
The messenger rig was built by Bud Taylor of 'The Kite Guys' in Airdrie, Alberta. Once we got it figured out (and fixed ), it worked like an absolute charm. Three bears at a time, and the ferry would always return (sometimes like a missle too)
The crew consisted of about 11 people. (some are pictured here) And boy did we find a rythmm to this
Behind the 'chutes on the left is Max Woslyng. He was my 'Holder'. He held the Ferry and postiond it while I attached all the 'stuff'
From the right: The lovely lady in the colorfull jacket whom is mostly hidden by the big guy is Linda Woslyng, Max's wife. She was just great talking to the kids and strapping thier choosen animals into a harness.
The Big Guy is Jim Venables. I met him 10 years ago and he taught me how to fly a dual line kite. He helped a lot.
The lady in the white shirt is Dorothy Gulch. This girl became absulutley invaluable to me throughout the whole festival. She was my right hand girl all the time. God bless her.
The shorter lady faceing Dorothy and weaing the purple shirt is Nicole Rickard. She is the daughter of the festivals Co-Presidents. She was also our Certificate filler-outer person And, surprisingly enough, I went to high school with her
The stuffed toys go up...
and up...
Then come down....
and down...
and down...
Untile finally the little running tykes get thier animals, and I get the 'chutes back

The 'Bol Races', or as I like to call it, "The Running of the Kids" were simply awesome
Many thanks to GrantL for first telling me about them
We ran aver 10 races with up to 8 kids in each race. (and pretty much everyone got a prize of course )
In the background of the second picture is a large 10 foot Bol. The fella hanging on to it is Gary Mark from Toronton and one of our guests flyers.
When we first called out the 'Bol races, Gary brought out his 10 foot Bol. I told him he then had to run every race with that Bol. And, you know what, I think he damn near did _________________ There is no box. |

The Candy Drop's were priceless. Carl Bigras and his lovely wife Nicole did a wonderfull job. All the kids got candy, and had a great time.
We dropped about 250 pieces of candy during sunday. I think it was about 10 drops or so.
The 'Candy Crew'
The fella holding the ferry is the big man Carl Bigras himself. Nice rig he has there. Nicole, his wife, is the lady kneeling down and diggin in the box.
Dorothy Gulch, (who has almost as much energy as I do) is in the turquoise shirt behind Carl. Always present, always doing good. Love that chick
On the far right is Gary Mark, and on the far left is his father Henry Mark. That's them helping Good people them guys
The raising of the Candy Bag:
The releasing of the Candy.
This is too cool.
It was just soo much fun for everyone _________________ There is no box. |
