Eddy, William Abner
Accountant, Journalist, Scientist
1850-1909
William Eddy began building kites like most of us did as a child. A simple hexagon kite with a tail to control stability. He liked the idea of flying more than one kite at a time and "trained" them together. Also discovering that the tails were troublesome in this configuration. He developed the elongated diamond shaped kite that now bears his name.
In 1892 discovered that the bow in the cross spar controlled the amount of air that spilled over the sides of the kite. Incorporated this into all of his future kites.
