I don't like to post links to Steve's competiton.
Steve, the man who is kind enough to provide these fine fourms does not sell Icarex PC-31 but he sometimes has some of the older Icarex.
He does not sell Chicara but he does sell a lot of other rip stop nylon fabrics.
Look at the top of all the pages here at Kitebuilder fourms for a link to Kite Studio and you may find some products that will fit your needs.
Sorry I did not answer your question...
Maybe Steve will start carring those products if he sees enough intrest in them... _________________ VR/

Hmm.. I am not sure the word is "Fault"...
I have spoken to Steve about this before. One of the problems is that there is no distributor for either fabric in the US or Canada. I know of a place in Canada that sells Chikkara and it's about 17.00 CDN /yard.. THey bring it in from the UK. Icarex will be the same problem, it would have to be brought in from Europe and the cost would be too great.
IMHO,

Half-ounce North Cloth is very similar to Chikara. |

Hello AK47, welcome to the forum hope you enjoy our kite family . As you probably have taken notice we all try to help one another. We have some fun and we all take kite building and kite flying seriously. Some of us are new to kite building and others are expirenced . But we all share our knowledge. I saw your post a short while ago and did not hear of the chickara fabric before . Could you tell me about it. Is it a nylon or poly kind of material, what thickness's does it come in, is it superior to nylon or other fabrics that we use. How do you know of it . Is it a fabric popular in your country. Lots of questions that I hope you can answer.

It's so similar, it's very tough to tell the difference. |

From other reviews I've heard about chikara it fades really fast compared to other nylons. It's a .7 oz Ripstop nylon usually used by flexifoil. It was on all of the strangers and psychos unless they were the ul's which used icarex. imo the stuff steve sells is higher quality than chikara. I flew a stranger for about a years time every time i got a chance and it was faded pretty heavily in no time compared to a few other kites i owned back in the late 90's. _________________ Chris Taylor

Chikara is most popular for traction kites such as the C Quads and others that are routinely dragged through water and put away wet. The fabric has great water repellency becuse of the coating. I find the North Cloth to be almost as good in this regard. North Cloth is designed for spinnakers, so the requirements are similar to a kiteboarder's needs.
Most of my stunt kites are made of NC, and it does fade a bit more than Icarex, and in damp weather will sag veryslightly until it dries, then it's tight again. My traction kites don't seem to have any problems besides my crude bridling. |
