Ok, first, this aint pretty. But, I'm sure it should work fine (I hope)
Next, I'll make the diamond eddy. It'll be about 83 cm tall and wide. Cabon spines, but wooden dowels for the cross spreaders.

Hi Prog , so we know this isnt a moose drop-ing (pun) tell us how the thing works. I have seen several devices, how does yours work .It is obvious there is a loop attached to the El-Moose-O how do you cause him to release?

The eddy kite is split down the middle from the top to a couple inches below the cross spreader. It will have two spines. Between those spines is a piece of tubing which acts as the hinge and the attachment for the above tubing.
This page http://www.vientocero.com/kpb/planos/lifting/lifting.html is the plans I'm useing. It does a great job of explaing on it works. The neat part (which I didn't realize for a while) is that the eddy kite hinges along the entire length of the spine and does in fact use a bridle (of sorts). You run a line through a small plastic ring (caboni(?) ring) then attach the ends to the tips of the cross spreaders. You put the ring through the same wire used to hang the moose from.
So, when the moose release, so does the line which holds the wings of the kite open. They collapse, and the messenger slides back down the line.
In the picture, you see the end of the wire on the left. It loops around the flying line. The Eddy kite lifts the device up the line, then when it hits a knot (I'll use a steel ring attached to the line), the wire acts like a plunger.
On the right side, I used R/C engine fuel tubing to connect the plunger with the trigger. When the plunger is pushed backed, it pulls the trigger out from between the two blocks. You hang the Moose (and attach the bridle ring) on that wire. When it's pulled, everything drops.
I've re-built the wire parts of my messenger. Now that I figured out how to make the proper key-chain style loops in the wire, I made a much cleaner setup this time

The template for the Eddy is made and all is ready to cut. The Sgt. wanted to go bigger, so the eddy is now 100 cm tall and 105 cm wide. The cross is at 25 cm. The messenger whill have a range of a bout 6 cm for adjustments (more if really necessary).
In this picture, you can see where the cross spreaders attach to the spine (follow the line from the point, under the iron bar)). Then, there's about 6 cm more space space to the step. From there to the bottom (right side) the eddy is one piece (hence te extra 5 cm width).
For the top of the spine, I'll use a 20 cm long sleeve. The bottom of the spines will go into pockets. The whole thing will be edge bound with 1.5 oz fabric.
Well, time to go cut it

Ok, your not going to believe this
Remember that thread I started where I asked about when you know you what your going to build? I said that I tend to make things up as I go along.
Well, this is one of those times.
You'll note above that the sail is just one color. Pink.
Yeah, I'm going to change that.
For some reason, the obvious color scheme for the Eddy didn't hit me until the hot-cutter was hot, and I was 30 seconds away from cutting.
Bamm!! Why not make the Eddy kite a Canadian Flag Eh!!!
Later,
P.
I just unplugged my hot cutter. _________________ There is no box. |

Hi Bernie, Thanks I wasent sure what kind of a kite it was going to be. Should have thought it out first. It could be the center section of a ganki thats a good lifter also.

Well that's interesting.
On the link above, the guy says his genki test wasn't so good. That's why I picked the large diamond. He mentions he built a 1m eddy to lift his 'tuffy' bear in light winds.
I really can't tell how much the moose weighs. It's got to be at least 2 pounds though. If he turns out to big, they have a smaller version of the same Moose.
