Hi Kitesquid,
I agree that attaching the bow line to the skin distorts the sail, I had not come up with a solution to that yet.
I will have to try your method of attaching the bow line.
As far as the spine, I used an arrow notch with beads on a pig tail which allows for adjusment if the sail ever stretches, however, it is not a good idea for rok battles it is easy to catch.
OK, what is "Harold's Battle Braid"? I had my bridle cut once in battle.
(I won't mention the couple of times I cut someone elses bridle  not on purpose of course)
