|
|
I just bought a used Pfaff 1475CD sewing machine on eBay. It is comming via FedEx and should be at the KiteCave on Monday.
Does anbody out there have a simular model and are willing to share any information on it???
Joys or problems???
I purchased it for the Dual Feed and it also sews letters.
My old home sewing machine would not feed the Jefferson Edo because it had about 16 yards of 1.5 Oz Nylon.... I had to sew it on my Singer 20U industrial to get it to feed right.
My Bernina 130 is already sold to Dennis True. I think it is a gift for his wife... _________________ VR/

I have a 1471 which is similar. Just two models before yours. You will like the 1475, for sure.
I use only 3 of the 100 plus stitches available. I do like the electronic selection for different stitch widths and lengths.
The duel feed is great. The needle down option is even greater, in my opinion. The automatic needle threader is another unused option on my machine. I like to poke the thread through the needle.
A friend bought a 1475 at a garage sale last summer for $200 and his wife yelled at him for spending so much money. _________________

Have not seen/heard anything from Dennis for quite a while. Must be busy. _________________

When you talk about dual feed do you mean the built in walking foot or something else. I have a Phaff 6120 with the walking foot or upper feed dogs. It has the needle threader which I really like. However I've been look longingly at a new machine with the needle down option. When your sewing with lots of fabric and need the needle down to anchor it while you reposition it sure would be nice to have it automatic.
Good luck with your new machine Squid.

Yes, duel feed = walking foot here. I had a third party walking foot on a machine, and did not like it at all. I took it back, and found a different one. It worked pretty good, but made a lot of noise when sewing.
The automatic needle down and sew slow option are my favorites. _________________

I too have a 1471. I’ve had Berninas, Singers and several Pfaffs, and this is my favorite. The dual feed is surprisingly good. My sister-in-law gave me some satiny fabric to make a cheap tube tail. The walking foot is good enough that, even on a 20 ft seam, on a really slick, satiny fabric, there was no more than 1/4 inch slippage (the far ends of the seam missed each other by less than 1/4 inch).
The bobbin out light has spoiled me; I no longer have to listen for a low bobbin. The "needle down" feature is so much easier than what I had to do on an old Singer. The digital control on the width of stitch makes it easy to narrow down a zigzag to a point. It has several easily swapped feet, and one foot has an adjustable edge. This was invaluable when I was in Bobby Stanfields kite class years ago. It made it so even a neophyte could do a Bobby Stanfield kite, with a perfect seam, 1/16 inch from the edge of the black strips he uses. It also has all the stitches I have ever needed.
Yes I could do all the same things with an older Singer or a Pfaff 130, but I could also use an old handheld brace and bit instead of a new Makita portable hand-drill. I just don't have to work quite so hard to do the same results with the Makita.

Pfaff's Dual Feed system is a variation of the Walking Foot.
In the photo above (from Pfaff's web site) you will see the dual feed foot is actualy behind the presser foot. Only the black foot does the walking not the entire presser foot like in an industrial walking foot machine.
So that is why Pfaff calls it dual feed as it is not a true walking foot.
To read a little more about it or to see a move about it go HERE on Pfaff's web site.
Or go to a Pfaff dealer and ask for a demonstration (bring your own fabric, needles and thread) _________________ VR/
