Steve does not cary these so I thought I would pass on a good deal to the rest of you kite builders...

If you are lucky(?) enough to live near a Harbor Freight store and are in need of a Hot Knife or hot tacker you are in luck

Their lot number 38593 is a 5-IN-1 HOBBY WOODBURNER

Look at this photo

From Harbor Freight's web site...

Design, Fuse, Cut and Solder
Interchangeable tips make this an incredibly versatile tool. Create burned-in designs for wood or leather. Fuse plastic cord. Cut stencils. Shape Styrofoam. Solder small parts. Includes 3 soldering tips, 4 woodburning tips, safety hanger and tool, all packed in a convenient carry case.

I have several of these as they are cheep disposable tools.

I belive they are 30 Watts but I am not sure... I do use them a lot tho...

Instead of buying a $30 model from the craft store buy 6 of these as they are on sale at the stores for $4.99 until April 26th.

I keep the chisel point in one, the pencil point in another and the Pencil point in yet another but I put a spring from the hardware store around it so I have a hot tacker. Never have to change tips!!!!!!! I am efficient, not lazy... Laughing

Throw the blade holder away as it does not work well on our fabrics (I tried may times to get it to work)

When one burns out just throw it away and grab one out of your spare pile.

I also have resold several to budding kite builders in my area (I did not make a profit) that wanted a hot cutter on a budget... so keep several handy to sell/give to your friends too!!!!

BTW the price online is $9.99 so you have to go to the store to get the good deal.

I have never had one burn out yet but you never know... Buy several spares at this price....

I only have one spare right now so I need to get to a store but I don’t know when I will make it... Oh well, I will try to get to the Roanoke VA store next weekend as I will be there for a kite festival.

BTW the 5 pc Diamond Mini Cutting Discs (Lot No. 31501) are on sale for $2.49 instead of the normal $9.99...

To find a store go " target="_blank" class="postlink">HERE

Kitesquid,
Why do you call it disposable if yours haven't burned out?
I got the same cutter at AC Moore four years ago. It's been my favorite cutter, and I've left it on for 24 hours at a stretch by accident without it burning out, as my Weller, Wen and Dremel cutters did. I use the big chisel tip and made a safety stand from some steel conduit.

Disposable as in it is sooooooooo inexpenisve that I can loose one and not sweat it.

If I were to loose my other hot cutter I would have a fit

Harold your not my friend any more . you made me go to harbor frt. and buy those cutters , the real bad news is I bought two pks. of them two diamond point bit sets ( on sale ) #40547 that contain mostly bur points and also a 50 pc. diamond point set that has mostly disc type shaping heads .
when my wife saw what i got she said WHY ? I said Harold made me do it . Now she's mad at you to.
But I guess you have been mad at before.

Cliff, that's brilliant!! Wink We could make Harold the scapegoat of all our lapses in wisdom:

"Honey, I had to buy all that fabric. Harold made me do it!"
"Dear, I have to go to that kiting event; Harold is forcing me."
"Darling, if I didn't by that new tool, Harold would never forgive me!"
"Honey Dearest, if I don't buy all those wonderful fittings for a
historically accurate Cody, Harold will call me a kite wuss!! In public!!"

We could make Harold the long suffering Saint of "Unpopular kite decisions". We could make his symbol 2 strips of Ripstop and a very impressive, but not quite identifiable tool. Remember Harold your sacrifice will not have been made in vain, we will make offerings of good beer where-ever we may find you. Just don't get too close to our wives as they may not be as appreciative. Laughing

Sounds familiar. I married an economist that later morphed into a boat captain.
