I received this in an eMail this evening - from a large hotel chain Sr. Sales Manager:

I asked him/her a few questions:

Q4: How many will participate, and how big will the teams be?
Q5: How much are you prepared to spend?
Q6: Do you have any suggestions as to the materials they'll use (i.e. anything that can be found in a hotel supply closet - like trash bags, feather dusters, toilet paper rolls, pillow cases, etc.)? |
I haven't started looking for options, but I immediately remembered the NYKE Kite Builders Challenge Kit kit - although I still don't know what's in the kit.  So I'm not sure if it would work with this group...
Are there other 'kits' already packaged for this kind of 'challenge' event?
BTW - if this event is located in your neck of the world, I might ask for your assistance

I remember watching A segment of 20/20 on tv where the u.s. postal service had a work shop with postal employees grouped into teams to make things . Its purpose was to get individuals to function as a team and improve and be more productive.
So the idea you posted makes good sense. |

I would try the kite in an hour type challange...
You provide all tools/parts/equipment and they have to build a kite that flyes in that time.
Provided are
1/4" and 1/8" dowels
Trash bags (to skin the kites) aslo if you bring draw string type bags it can be used as a reinforcemnt or tail... if they think that far ahead
Tape on a dispensor
String on winders (also to fly it on)
Cheep scissors
Pliers (this keeps people who carry leathremans from "cheating")
Nylon Wire ties (easyer on the hands than wire or stirng to lock spars toghether
Molded dihedrals in 1/4 and 1/8" sizes
A slide show of kites would be nice as set up and tear down of a bunch of your kites would kill you and would also set a precident of kites that actualy fly well as things to copy (might be good or bad)

Steve carries a packaged kit - Frustrationless Flyer Kit - that will build 20 kites. Best thing about these is no sticks. Into the Wind also carries the same type of kit.

I helped coordinate a team building event with Columbia Sportswear execs. I provided the rokkaku kits (4' tyvek no sew) and friends Ron and Cindy Thrall instructed. Great feedback.
How much do they want to spend on the project? What kind of quality/durability do they want to have?
Tyvek Della Portas are another nice project. I have done events with children and adults. Smallest done was 24" x 32" and largest was 42" x 48". Costs go up dramatically with the size of the kite.
So many options and so little time!!
