Ok, interesting. Should've done this earlier.
I used a sewing needle, and poked it through a piece of 1.5 and a piece of .75. I pulled the needle all the way through the .75. I couldn't pull it through the 1.5. (tried several times each piece)
So. The 1.5 is MORE resistent to expanding on existing holes. So, less pokeable then .75
Is that what I was supposed to discover??

UMMMM...Squid?....how does that factor in?

Well, I tried it with a push pin. Went all the way through the .75. In the 1.5 the pin bent over. This proves that push pins can be bent. _________________

interesting.....SQUID?......have you tried the test?
Umm sounds like the 1.5 is stronger than the .75
I would do this myself but I don't have any 1.5 scraps yet....

Nope, I just have not gotten to it.
Life at home is a little bussy for me so not much time to tinker with kites... _________________ VR/

stevef wrote: | ok..... who has some scraps of both 1.5 and .75 COATED Ripstop nylon? Try this little test: Take a six inch square of both pieces of cloth. Insert a push pin in the center and then pull the pin through the fabric. If you want to get technical, pull with a spring scale.
This test measures tear strength..... now..... what are the results? Which cloth tore with less effort?
Still have some scraps? Try the test again but this time, turn the fabric 90 degrees and test the tear in the other direction of the weave.
What did you discover?

Has anyone else been trying this yet? Or other 1.5 vs .75 oz strenght tests? _________________ There is no box. |
