I am looking at an 18' wide by 6' tall double delta conyne, what type of framing should I use?

I have some black tubes I got from someone, but there are no markings on it. They are approximately a .350" OD (using a ruler to measure) and maybe a wall thickness of about 1/32". Of course I don't have enough to do the whole kite anyway, so I will probably need to get new framing anyway so it is all the same.

Hi Ken... .350" might be a little light if it is Epoxy... I think you need to get closer to .505 and .602. You might even want to consider the .745 for the spreader. We have ferrles for all of our spars so you can easily get to your required length and be able to pack the kite down.

Steve can get big Carbon too if you want to put the kite on a diet and your wallet too Very Happy

as Carbon is not cheep, but it is the best thing going now.

I would LOVE to build a GIANT rokkaku and a GIANT Cody using BIG Carbon.

I would have to design the kites so that most of the frame pieces are interchangable....

Thats a good idea!!! I hadn't thought about that.

I just checked on the materials for the framing and it is going to run just over $100 for the framing, not including fabric.

Having an interchangable frame makes sense, I don't know if I would want to have to watch two large kites at once. I think the advantage of the two kites you mentioned is that I believe the cody would have a different wind range than the rok. (I don't know for sure since I don't own one)

It depends on the materials selections you make.

Stong=high wind

Light = Low wind

Strong + Light = wide wind range!!!!!!!!!

Durrabialty should be taken into account somewhere in the process too. either at the begeining or at the end when you need more spairs...

My dream is to find a kite that I adore and then keep making sails with different graphics for this same kite, so that when I go to the field, I just pick a sail, stick it and go... This dream kite will be under size framed with Carbon since I live in the land of no wind, then I would have a bag of frame inserts to slide inside when the wind does actually arrive everyother month
