The same sort of thing happened here in South Texas with a aluminized mylar balloon at a chemical processing plant. The balloon floated down into a 'flare' tower/chimney. These towers have electronics in the top to monitor the gas volume, smoke, heat, burn rate, and other such EPA regulations. The balloon happened to short out the electronics in one of the towers and sent the plant into shutdown/emergency mode.

I'm glad I wasn't around.

My local shop sells lots of large metallic Mylar fighters from India.
I only see oldsters flying them.
Those balloons are everywhere!
