Hi guys,
I'm the newbie but I would be interested in building a Pyro. 10 yards of material would be a good starter amount. I will probably wish I had more later on but the money needs to be stretched a bit right now. Ft Worden is coming up and then Lincoln CitySpring Festival, then Southern Oregon Kite Festival in Brookings, then WSIKF, then Lincoln CityFall Festival, then Convention. I think there are more but I can't think of them right now.
Anyway, count me in. I can send a check if you want.

If you're thinking about building a standard size Ghost Pyro, it will take every bit of 30 yards to bo the job. More, if you screw up any large pieces.
Quote: | (from my post on another forum) I just finished doing a quick drawing of my interpretation of a Ghost Pyro, then used the shape to cut parts with a 43 1/2 inch cookie cutter, then laid the parts out as best I can (esp. at this hour.) I think I got all the pieces facing up, and all the fabric in the correct direction and all adjoining pieces matched for fabric direction.
Per my calculations, it would take about 28.6 yards of continuous material to get all the pieces, including the keel, for a one-color Pyro.
Got $100, a sewing machine, a few 8mm rods, and a lot of time to finish a project? |
That's a 12' span, with 40' tails. The tails have to be laid out end-to-end on the material, PLUS more material to complete the width of the tails. _________________ Dennis |

Say, Dennis; what is the regular size of Ghost Pyro.
I was planning to do mine 12 ft wide, but after reading
about Dos Pyros on this site:
http://www.sky-dance.net/dos_pyros.htm
I am more inclined to believe that it should be 11 ft.
My first attempt will be with some of this orange coated (but relatively soft) Ripstop that I won in a raffle last year. After that I am doing a pair of white ones ... And since I have not found a plan it will be from scratch _________________ Don Lord |

I am hoping for a set of plans from Norway. Will let you know if it works out, or not.
Say, Don, did you get your snowball?

Yes, I did. And very nice it is. I thought I had written to thank you for it. Sorry it slipped through the cracks Been quite busy since my return with my caregiver duties.
I thought the sewing was very meticulous for a windtoy, certainly better than the run of the mill. Gave me some ideas about making a bigger one to add to my collection. Again thanks for the little contest.

Don - did I ever answer your post? The dims I got came up to 12 foot wingspan and tails about 38 feet long. I'm sure both of them could easily be scaled up, down or sideways without too much trouble.
BTW, what ever happened with all that wihite Toray?? I haven't heard a word about it - Has anyone else? _________________ Dennis |

I ask bother? nag? Steve about it semi-weekly (or so it seems).
Last night he told me that "The fabric should be here tomorrow. I tried adding the new toray Key to the catalog last night but was running into errors.... I am still experiencing "behind the scene errors" from the changeover......"
WOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOO !!!
My shopping cart is getting full... _________________ Spence

I tried to answer your post last night but the forum would not accept it; just ate it up. Hope that things are back to normal, more or less, still not having any pics or emoticons...
No, I thought you were waiting for plans from Norway-have those arrived?
Are the dims of 12ft wide with tails of 38ft, from the Norway plans? I was planning on 12 ft and 45 ft long over all and tails, 5 ft wide at the root. Almost bang on, just a foot off in the length of the tails. I have yet to make a scaled pattern that will help me to cut all that in a very restricted area. I will scale that down for a 9ft sail as well. ( I need something for the raffles.)
As for the Toray, I have just read the post from Spence, last I had heard before was from Stevef on Jan 21. I guess there are a few bugs to iron out first... _________________ Don Lord |

Thanks for straightening me out there, Dave.
Beggars can't be choosers as my grandma was found of saying... Still, most of the time it is well worth the wait. Just let me in on it.

This fabric is now available.
The sale price in the catalog is $6.00 per yard, HOWEVER, for forum members, we are offering the following extra special deal:
$100 for 30 yards, or $35 for 10 yards, plus shipping.
To receive the above prices, put the following code in the comment section during the checkout process:
