when I am elected king, My bottom thread will come off a spool just like the top thread already does.

Are there any machines that work this way?

Yes. I have a friend that had his machine rigged to work this way. It is not a do it yourself project, though.

Really? Do you know how it was done?

I was talking to Joe T (mentioned here many times) about this and he said that there was no reliable way of using a larger spool for the bottom thread with a conventional machine.

Perhaps you could get a description of what was done including some pictures/drawings? I wouldn't trust myself for this mod, but someone like Joe T. or a machinist friend that I have could do it easily.

My meager knowledge about sewing machines makes me think this would be a major overhaul. If the source of the lower thread becomes larger, then the race has to move faster and cover a larger distance in the same amount of time. Plus, the amount of slack introduced will be greater, so the take-up arm has to move further to acheive the same tension.

Any input on that???

I have to agree with Progcraft that if it could be done ALL industrial machines would have it by now as that would take labor out of sewing....

To get the thread to run out at the same time, just use a bobbin as the top spoll like I sujested, so both bottom and top threads are comming from the same size spool.

Kiteguy, if indeed your friend uses a spool or cone of thread in place of the bobbin, please post photos here ASAP as I want to modify my machine to do the same....

Get in touch with Ron Linder. He is a member of AKA and lives in the suburbs of Lt Louis.

hmmm...... this is very interesting......

I'll see if I can get hold of him. Ron is also the guy who took over for me and now runs the AKA retail store.
