I am just getting into kite building and flying and I was wondering what type of line is best suited for use on 4 line stunt kites. I realy don't know anything about lines. Can anyone suggest some good online articles that are not specific to fighter kites?

Hi Realityhack. Welcome to kitebuilder. It's nice to see new people Smile

Check out this thread on kitelife.com:

John Barresi is a long time quad line flyer and champion. Penny Lingenfelter is one of the best there is at flying quad's indoors. And AiyanaLeigh is a fast growing expert in her own right.

Hope that helps. Feel free to post any other question you have here.

Cheers,
P.

Welcome Aboard!

For Stunt Kites, 2,3,4, or 6 lines I always recommend Spectra. It is used by probably 99% of the sport kite flyers. Spectra is lightweight, Small Diamter, and Low in stretch. It is also very "slippery" so it works great when you have multiple wraps.

For more info, you might want to look at articles 42-45 in the
Techsheet section of kitebuilder.com

100% Spectra is the only way to go... low stretch (but some creep) small diamater for the strength (low wind resistance) and I recomend that you do not buy blended lines.

Some lines are even impregnated with lubricants to keep em sliding when wrapped up and it is more of an issue in a quad line kite than a dual line kite as you have twice the lines: twice the friction when flying... Berry blue's ES-55 or Laser Pro's GOLD are the top two types on the market. I like them both and it is hard to tell the diffrence between them.

Some people buy non lubed line and just spray em down with silicone lube from the hardware store every now and then to keep em sliding.

all lines on a multiline kite MUST be the same length, within 1/4"or better depending on how anal you are....

Search the GWTW froums about lines. TONS of information there and lots of multiline flyers too...

I fly all types of kites, single dual and quad line types....

I looked at your profile and sense you did not put where you live I cannot help you find sombody in your area to fly with so I recomend that you attend a sport kite festival or find some sport kite flyers in your area using the AKA's E Directory, also check for clubs in your area thru your AKA regional director...
