I had about 5 ft of hollow core door that I was using for my son's desk. When he married and moved I just cut a hole in the center at one edge. The hole was sized to fit my flat bed machine. I only had to put 3/4 inch spacers to move the extension to be flush with my machine.
That works fine, and even better than the table entension I made out of a sind cutout from a kitchen counter for my other Pfaff. I prefer to take the counter cutout table and machine to workshop sessions, though. Easier to transport. |

Squid,
What do you call those adjustable feet that you have on your homemade sew steady? Where did you get them?
Thanks -- Rich _________________ Rich Durant

The picture is of a comertial one.
I dont have a photo of the one I made
I recomend using Velcro to put the feet on the bottom of the table (so you dont have screw heads to hook your fabric on)
I used adjustable feet off a desk they were throwing away at work and some film canisters, but wodden dowesl would make a easyer to build table. _________________ VR/

The best table I have used actually belongs to Don Mock (Tacoma, Washington. He’s the creator of the Mockform). He has a sewing table with a recessed hole for his sewing machine. The table is 3 feet from front to back, and extends at least 18 inches to the left of the machine. To the left of the sewing desk, and butting up to it, is a 4 ft x 10ft glass top table, which stands at the same height as the sewing desk. He has a triangular piece of plywood he can add to the front of the desk, which butts up against the table, and this makes it easier to guide fabric from the table to the sewing machine.
This is perfect for large inflatable kites (e.g. 100+ sq ft foils) or just plain big kites. You can easily hot tack on the table, and then slide the hot-tacked seam right over to the sewing machine without stressing the hot tacks. There is also an area behind the desk to feed all that sewn fabric into, so it doesn’t pile up and push back. It’s really a magnificent setup and has gotten me to start redesigning my own sewing room. It's the next best thing to a sail makers loft. |
