Do you date and sign your projects and if so what type of pen or marker works best???
Thanks

Yes, I sign most of my kites. I use a silver paint pen, or a black permanent Sharpie. Depends on the color of the material where I sign it. |

Hmmmm...
Well, it's like this:
The silvery paint pens flake away after a while.
Black (or any other color) Sharpies tend to 'run' when they get wet, especially on flagcloth (200 denier Oxford Nylon).
The best marker we have found so far is a permanent laundry marker.
The jury is still out on the brand new silver Sharpie markers.
The absolute best method is to have a sewing machine that wll embroider letters. But that is probably too 'big ticket' an item for some kitemakers. For me, it was the best invention since e-mail . . . <g>
But, yes, absolutely, date and sign *every* project. It is very rewarding to handle or fly a piece, a decade after it has been made, and see how much has been learned in between. _________________ good heavens;

Try a Sharpie Extra Fine marker. If you look closely, the material in the tips are different - suggesting the inks might be different (yet still permanent).
I tried one to initial and date all the sleds today - worked perfectly - no bleeding at all. Gives a nice fine line too!

Bought one today Metallic Silver and it seemed to work well. The only glitch was a bit of bleed on some 400 denier banner cloth.... Hopefully it weathers fine...
Thanks all

But were to sign is the question?
A fine humerous kite maker once told me.
If you sign the piece on the back it's a craft.
If you sign the piece on the front it's art. |

This is just me, but since I know my signage isnt art , I try to always sign on the back right along the spine if there is one. If not, as close to the center at possible, then to the right just a bit. _________________ If we had enough string, I bet it would fly... |

I can't come up with a reason to sign my kites, so pens aren't a problem.

I sign mine on the back and it shows through the front. So, I guess my work is crafty art. _________________
