GREETINGS EVERYONE,

Guess that I've been away from the forum for a while. Sorry, been busy! AND as some of you may have noticed in the latest issue of the AKA's KITING what's been keeping me busy is that I've helped to establish a committee to track Kite Records!

I thought that I'd mention a few things to all of you here @ Kitebuilders as I got the original idea to pester the AKA Executive Committee into creating the KIte Records committee right here in the Kitebuilder forum during a discussion about a World Record that was supposedly seen on TV way back in November of 04!

OK so here I was, making a list of Kite records that I wanted to submit to the AKA's Executive Committee for approval along with my original proposal, rules and procedures. For some of the records I simply looked into the last issues of KITELINES which as you all know tracked Kite records for many years.

I also decided to add a few others in the process. I thought of many, some just didn't seen to fit, like "Strongest Pulling Kite" or some would make the record lists too long, such as "Most Trlby's or "Biggest Box Kite" some were just well, kind of absurd such as the "Biggest tangle of Kite Line on a flying field" or "The most consecutive loops to the left for a dual line kite.
That last one was, by the way a record claimed by some fliers on the East Coast back in the mid-90's and that "record?" would be 235 loops to the left before they lost control!

BUT although some of the Kite Records I thought of didn't make it into the list of "Official Recognized AKA Kite Records" they could be VERY important to some fliers! VERY important to many of you right here in this forum!

Here are two Kite Records that didn't make the list, but I'm sure that all of you here in a forum entitled "Kitebuilders" will have an entrant or two that might be considered for these records!

1.) The Fastest Kitemaker ANYWHERE?
(Fastest sewn kite? Fastest start to finish and flying of some kind of kite?
Fastest "Stitchs per second??")

2.) The Most Prolific Kitemaker ANYWHERE?
(Kite maker that has made the MOST handmade kites in their sewing career)

OK lastly, these questions about Kite Builders Records are NOT being asked with my "official" Records Committee HAT on! They will not make it into the Record Book!

BUT I'm sure that there will be some "Bragging Rights" connected to these "unofficial kite records".
You have to figure out the criteria and documentation! Rolling Eyes

Good Luck!

On your mark, get set, ........ sew! Laughing

GOOD WINDS

Hummm, probably MM would win both catagories. Or perhaps Progcraft. Dancing

Naw, it aint me. Though I did make a 3m NPW9b in 12 hours once. And it still flies Smile
Decided I wanted a new one of Friday night. Went flying it sunday afternoon. Smile

Hi Al Smile
Nice to see you again.
A week or two ago I decided to set a record for both myself and for the Pincher Creek kite festival. Also, if it works, it'll likely be an Alberta record, and maybe(?) even a Canadian record (though I kinda doubt that).
I intend to try and have one kite flying non-stop, never touching the ground, for no less then 48 hours. But, I'm starting to think a train of 10 or so Delta Conynes with a big Double DC at the top might be the best way to do it. Each DC would be spaced quite far apart. Say 20 feet. I think this might have an advantage over a single kite in that at least one kite should always have good wind conditions. Smile (you think that'll work??)

Cheers
P.

Your right the title of this thread "Used To" say U.S. Kite Record!

I suppose I meant "ANY kitemaker anywhere" and not just those that are members of 50 specific states!

So I guess that despite my claim I did set some "criteria" Shocked
Please re-read Post #1!

P.S. If we really need to get technical about the "Fastest Sewer"
I'd like to "suggest" - Specific Stitch and Speed in mm per second? Laughing

Although I don't know a real lot about sewing that definitely doesn't sound good Confused

But then again in the 2004 Guinness Records Book on the same page as the record for the 1 mile relay, is the fastest Backwards Mile ever run (6 min. 2.35 sec) So I suppose Fastest "UN-sewing" would also be a category. Laughing

On the other hand on that very same page of the Guinness Book is listed the record for the
"Fastest 10 km run wearing a Pantomine costume"

Which could open a whole new series of categories such as
Fastest un-stitcher wearing a clown suit" Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

Peter - very nice website! Especially interesting photos of Peter Lynn's Kuwait Flag kite at Bristol. It would be VERY cool to eye witness such a huge kite in flight. The latest issue of AKA's KITING has a very interesting article about Peter and the Big Kite. The cover picture of KITING is Doublly Interesting as it shows a picture of Peter standing Inside the kite!

GOOD WINDS
