Grant's Spike and Mike's Mimi make a few appearances here.
My vacation time has already been approved for this weekend. My wife and kids will also be attending. Guess I need to start polishing up the kites I'm bringing along and get moving on the projects I have in mind.
Hope to see you there! _________________ Mark

I won't be able to attend this year . The way my vacation time worked out, I will be on my yearly "vacation without the kids " that week. The folks at the kite shop asked me to do the bol races in the main arena last year when the wind was light. It was a great time being the entertainment for the crowd.

I feel bad having Spikey and the bol races miss the festival . If anyone would like to take them, I would gladly loan them out for a weekend . It's a blast seeing the kids happy faces.
For those that are thinking about going, It is a great beach, a great town and a great festival. For those of us in the midwest, it is a real treat to fly in the nice steady lake breeze. Last year, I had a couple of kites that had been problematic, fly steady all day long. There are usually a couple of kitebuilders that I know in attendance. They usually have cool things to see.
This was built by one of the guys. He is a college student majoring in graphic arts. The bottom link is a photo of a dragon windsock he designed and built. You can't tell from the photo how BIG it is

I'm hoping to attend this event. I haven't been there in about 6 or 7 years. _________________ Chris Taylor

Mimi will be there again this year. Sorry to hear that Spikey wont make it.
I plan on getting there by early afternoon Friday. I'm usually over by the snack bar area flying a revolution, but you can't miss Mimi. (Especially when she decides to take a stroll down the beach on her own!) _________________

Sorry I won't be there to see you again Mike. I think Spikey might be going without us though Maybe this time MIMI won't be so shy and run away |

A week and a half ago I learned that our motel is under construction. I was told to try calling back the week before to see if they're done. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, as I'm sure the rest of the kite flyers that normally sell it out are.
I've gotten VERY spoiled staying right across the street from the state park, so if they don't finish their construction I'm not sure if were going. I didn't bother to make other reservations because if we do decide to go without our beach front room, it's just as easy to stay with family in Spring Lake as it is to stay at the other motels by the highway.
I've told the guests we were going to bring with us that there is a kite festival that weekend, we're just not sure if it will be one with a lot of people in Grand Haven or a little impromtu one in Alpena, MI.
