MAKR is a super kitemakers retreat and a great party.
Those people really know how to have fun.
The dedicated volunteer staff is well organized and adapt to anything.
Even ME.
I had a great time! So great they wanted to send me home early.

My class was a Modified Rock. They titled it Rock Riot.
I encouraged riots twice and hopefully Twenty M-Rocks will get finished.
With only four hours or less to do the class it’s imposable for people to finish this project. But that’s the way they do it “A-Ha A-Ha.”
I was nervous about my presentation since I’m use to longer
classes but I managed to present at the speed of light and talk
about all the peripheral info I like to go through.
My sample kite has the graphics MAKR used for there name tags.
Thanks to Jerry Houk for the clip-art.

The one night raffle was in a style that I had never seen before.
John Karel (IL) and his clone John ? collected and displayed
a gazillion items and they even had an intermission (half-time).

Ron & Charm Linder (MO)

Half time fun and games. Dress-up contest. Cheryl Kear (OH)
clowned around at the indoor Sky Circus costume challenge.

She also presented a Dancing Dragon class.

Another fun thing was the tabletop circus display.
I did an impromptu display. Placed FIRST wooooo-hoooooo.

Other displays may have been more worthy put my verbal
description overwhelmed the judges. The explanation of the
crapping cow was what put me over the EDGE.
When you impress the judges they usually go Oooo, they went Mooooo.

Marten Bondestam from Finland was a constant entertainer and very informative.

Knot Ronda Brewer (OR) and the Phantom were in attendance
and did a great job presenting the Fluted Sled class.

This is NOT Ronda but that is the project.

Barb Meyer (MN) works on a painted panel in Susan Lennon’s (MD), painting nylon, class.

Barb tries to relax in a class but the trials and tribulations of being the “Head Cheese” keep her on the edge of panic.
Barb even presented a class too. (Eddy)

Finished panel from Susan’s class.

The Guy-Joseph Guercio (Heaven) Sunshine project was a blast.
Die some paper, glue it to an Eddy arch panel and wa-la art is created.

Other presenters were
Debbie Von Bokern (KY)
Paul Fieber (WI)
Gary Goodenough (WA)
Bob Rymaszewski (WI)
Charlie Sotich (IL)

Did you notice all those different (states).
Here are a few more. IN, KS, MI, NE.
14 in total and 11 Presenters.

This was my first MAKR.
I have been to many other retreats and this is a Great one!
My thank yous to all the volunteer staff, presenters and all the attendees.

Scott's cllass and all of the others were great. Windjunkie and I drew the short straw and had Scott's class last thing on sunday. There was a scheduling problem with some other things, so we had less than three hours for the class Shocked Scott did a great job though. I got my sail reinforced and hemmed and Scott had time to go over all of the important details so it should be no problem to finish it at home. Very Happy

Here are most of the forum members that were in attendance. I think there may have been a few there that didn't make it into the photo.

These are the Eddys that Kiteguy and I made in Barbaras class. Windjunkie got his done too but I didn't get a photo.

Here is Ronda and the magic carpet kite she made out of mylar. Really a nice looking kite

These are the inflatables made in the class that Marten Bondestam, from Finland, taught. ( That or the attack of the dreaded MAKR ghosts I can't remember which Think ) I made a neat blue-bunny in his class also. I will post photos when I get it bridled.

Here is a shot of some more of the great thing that they had in the auction. I fended off Kiteguys attempts to slide my DS over to the auction side of the room The forum members did pretty well at the auction Anxious

Thanks to Barbara and all of the MAKR crew for another great retreat. I would highly recomend trying to attend next year if you have never been. Once you go, you will want to go back every year. Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Nice Photo's, My buddy Terry from our club went down to MAKR and even thought he has built several kites he was overwhelmed by how much he learned and what a great time it was.

I'm not a sewer, but I plan on learing so I can attend next year. Smile

You don't have to sew to attend.
There are no sew classes too.
Charlie Sotich - Chineese paper cut mini kite.
Gary Goodenough - Brazilian Pipa
Ronda Brewer - Fluted Sled
Martin Bondestam - Plastic inflatables
Susan Lennon - Paint youe heart out

Looks like enough stuff for you to fill the weekend.
No more excuses, please.
Take a sewing class. Don't sew just watch and see how things are done.

Hope to see you next year.
