A few years ago we had a power cut on Christmas Day. Imagine sitting there with a turkey and no way of cooking it. _________________ Regards

Bernie,
You have to find a battery powered sewing machine .
I was looking at the weather hourly history for yesterday and in the morning the wind was blowing between 60 to 70 km/h and gusting up to 115km/h (71mph) in Moncton/Dieppe. Luckily we didn't loose power here but it blinked a few times. _________________ Smarties

when that hurricane blew over here in Virginia we were without power for 5 days at the office and just a little over 2 at home. We were lucky!!!!!
Some people went almost 2 weeks....
I should get a small generator some day... _________________ VR/

When we moved to Gold Beach, Oregon 53 years ago the power was out during every winter storm - usually from 3 to 5 days. Then we had to carry water from town because the well pump was electric. For heat we had the wood cook stove in the kitchen. Things have changed over the years. Now we are in town so experience power outages infrequently.
We still heat mostly with wood in a little free standing fireplace. The treadle sewing machine works but not so nice as the electric one.
Now we are complaining about the lack of storms and the moisture they bring. Many are worried about their wells going dry this summer.
Kite flyers are complaining that our wind is either too little or too much.
Have a nice day.
