It depends on if you care... for my silk painting techniques I did wash the fabric TWICE using Synthrapol and Rinced twice after the last wash , just to make sure any oils and soaps were out of the fabric before dyeing as they will repell the dyes.

Soda Ash (Sodium Carbonate) is used for MX family of dyes when dying on cotton. Soda Ash is NOT reqired for Acid dyes or Dispurse dyes!!!!!!

Like Randy said, look at the pait store or you can also find it at any hardware store or the hardware department of a discount departhment store (WallMart etc) Denatured Alcohol has a lot of varrainances in it, so I would recomend that you find a brand that works and stick to it....... diffrent additives to "denature" it....
You may also try NOT using the Alcohol.... it might work.... it depends on the fabric's coatings and also the water you use could effect it... Well, City, how hard or soft, if you use a water softner, I would recomend you get your water from the garden hose as it should be tapped off before the softner. No salt added.......

That is why I am here.
Also I rememberd something.... use non-reactive pots and tools, i.e. Stainless Steel or Enamled steel. do not use aluminum as the oxides may shift the chemestry......

I have an array of "kitchen" things for other nasty chemicles that I had planned to use. They are all stainless steel with red duct tape on the outside. The red duct tapes is so my husband (my home's cook) doesn't decide to use them for anything.
Again, thanks for all of your imput. I will be sure to take pictures of whatever results I get. Right now, I need to finalize my designs.

Sorry, I haven't looked. I've been busy trying to get my ideas on paper.
As I mentioned, I'd like one to be a knot design. I did something with Sharpies for a local kite club project. (There's a picture HERE) What I want to do is much more complicated, though, and I certainly do not want a blue sail. For the design in my head, I imagine the knots in white with black boarders and one accent color with a colored background. Does that make sense? When I get my design finalized on paper first I can post it. Due to other things that have just happened in the past couple of days, though, it may be a bit before I get the time to devote to this project. I will keep you posted though. |
