Now I broke my glass working surface. I don't know how....a chip appeared at the edge, and three cracks spread out to about 3 inches each. I taped them with Scotch tape, and packing tape. One day later one crack had extended itself completely across to the opposide side at a diagonal. I put packing tape on it and continued using it.
It works, but looks tacky. Oh well. _________________

Nightmare. I usually cut out on a glass sheet (temporarily borrowed from my wife's greenhouse) which I put on the dining room table. To save time of clearing the table I once put the glass on the carpeted floor to use. Guess what? As soon as I put any weight on it it cracked in two. I now always make sure I put it on a solid surface. _________________ Regards

Think of it as an oppurtunity to get a bigger, better, thicker work surface!!!!! _________________ VR/

I know how you feel Kiteguy.
My glass top was edge bound with that fiber reinforced tape. So when i broke mine (4 cracks spread from center outwards), the tape kept it all together. I still use it without much problem.

Has anybody out there tried taping their pattern and material to an outside window in the house? This would be just for tracing because the window could get scratched all up. Anybody? _________________ Buggy Berserker

Actually we tape it on the inside of our sliding glass door for backlighting to trace. The gap between the outside and inside sided of the glass can cause distortion and fuzzyness of lines.

I taped my pattern and sail on the OUTSIDE of the patio door. I turned all the lights on in the dining room, and went outside to transfer the pattern.
I did this on a moonless night.... _________________ VR/

Of course you could do it in the daytime, just turn all the lights out in the house and close all the blinds/drapes. Put the art and fabric on the inside of the patio door...... _________________ VR/

To clarify, yes we trace on the inside of our sliding glass door (which is where we tape the design). The afternoon light is perfect for backlighting. Because this is Oregon, it keeps us from getting wet (except for the weather at the moment which is way too good. We will pay for it later as our snow pack is way too low).
