While at the Maryland Kite Society's retreat, I saw some cones of thread in Steve's scaled down store and I asked about Polyester.

Steve told me that he is now carrying Polyester size V33 in black. He told me that is it bonded.

I took a look at it thru a 10x loupe that I have and compared it to some DaBond Polyester I have used in the past, and it looked simular in size and twist. They are slightly diffrent.

So I built a kite with it as a test and I HIGHLY RECOMED it.

I did have to adjust the upper tension a little on my machine but that is not out of the ordinary.

I do not know if it is UV protected like DaBond is, but I do know that I LIKE the way it sews...

What is the cost comparison? What is the length on a cone?

Sailrite has Dabond V-30 in 1oz Cones for $4.50

Steve has V-33 thread priced at $12 for a 4 Oz Cone.

V-30 yields about 725 Yds per Oz.

V-33 yields about 850 Yds per Oz.

V-30 is slightly stronger and a little larger diamater.....

So, 4 x 1 = 4
Dabond is $4.50 x 4 = $18 for the same amount of V-33 from Steve at $12. Hmmm, is the strength difference that much of a factor? And, is the $12 price our discounted price? Just thought I would ask.

Also, that would give you 725 yds x 4 for the Dabond and 850 yds x 4 for the V-33.

The $12 is the price on the web.

If you are an active menber of the AKA you could ask for a discount.

It is up to Steve to grant it....... His store.

yes, members of the American Kitefliers Association receive a 10% discount off all regular prices. If you are not a member, consider joining (there is an international region too!). Membership is $30 per year and gets you many benefits, including a quarterly color magazine. You can review all the other the benefits here:

http://www.aka.kite.org/mbrship.shtml

If you join, be sure to list kitebuilder.com as your motivation! Wink
(I receive NO compensation, just acknowledgement)

I knew that but I wasn't sure if the others out there knew about the AKA discount. You know we have to give Steve the business if we can. Wait a minute, did that sound correct? Shocked Laughing You know what I meant.

Gotta go before I get myself in real trouble.
