Mark your calendars for next March 11-13,2005 and start saving your $$, MAKR will be better than ever. We are thrilled to announce a great instructor line up, including:
Scott Spencer of NJ doing his Rok Variant, you've seen pictures of that here, won awards in both the bowed and rok category in Dayton
Cheryl Kear of OH with a Heart shaped kite, this is a new design. Cheryl is another that has won many, many awards at AKA
Paul Fieber of WI with a vacation bag. Perfect for taking a few kites along on that trip to China or wherever.
Barbara Meyer of MN with a 4ft pieced eddy kite, yea that's me
Susan Lennon of MD teaching for the very first time her paint and dye techniques for ripsrop, You saw her work on the horse genki at Smithsonian, her heron's and other fabulous designs.
Charlie Sotich of IL. the miniature master challenging you with Chinese paper cuts.
Gary Goodenough of OR will be teaching a Brazialian Pipa kite made of paper, bamboo and Carbon. The best of traditional and new!
Ronda Brewer of OR, will be having fun with a 4ft tall tyvek (what else?) fluted sled.
Deb Von Bokern of KY takes us on a magic carpet (sled) ride. She's used this design for school groups both in a sewn and no-sew version.
Marten Bondestam of Finland. The author of Better Kites, he'll have everyone heat sealing plastic to make inflatables including a rabbit shaped kite.
We like to think we have something for everyone, begineers to advanced, sewers and gluers. Our registration is only $115 for the weekend, bedding and towels included.
Complete information packets will be available in December. Contact me with any questions, or to get on the mailing list.
Barbara

How many Forum members will be attending MAKR? This will be my first time traveling out of my local area for a kite building event. So, I am working on my list of things to bring and hoping I don't forget something important.

I think that it is a given that SOMETHING will be forgotten. Murphy's Law, or something like that.

One year I forgot my foot control for my sewing machine. Barb came to the rescue, letting me use her machine, so I was able to finish her twin keel delta kite class.

When I was a presentor at MAKR I forgot the SPARS for my class! A quick trip into town, cleaned off the shelves of the hardware store, and one other store. That gave me enough spars for my class.

However, I had to miss out on part of the class I was taking. I did finish the project when I got home. Actually two of the 17ft spinners.

So, usually everything works out OK. (Pay attention to your check list when loading.)

Yes, the party times helped me sooth my nerves. Wink

You'll have a great time Donna. This will be my second year and I am really looking forward to it. In one of Ronda's posts, she mentioned a " kitebuilders" nametag. Did Steve have nametags available with the " Kitebuildes" logo on it. Or were people just making their own. We tried last year and I would like to get a photo again this year of all of the forum members that attend. Maybe we can try for Sat night between dinner and the auction. I think we tried Sun last year and it was a little difficult because everyone was trying to hurry and get packed so that they could hit the road. Looking forward to meeting/seeing everyone agisn Very Happy

Getting a pic of the Forum members is a great idea. But, it definately is easier earlier in the weekend than later to get everyone together. I have found this out at other events.

Do we have a volunteer for making some sort of identifying label for members? I don't know if MAKR does namebadges for attendees. Someone who has attended before would know.

I am getting excited!

Gotta go for now,

Oh yea, everyone gets a name badge. Sorry, no way to add extras on this end, but I do always make them large so you can personalize with various add ons.
Any volunteer to gather names and print labels? As of last mail, we have 60 attending, still hoping for more, have room for 75. If you are at all interested, get in touch!! some classes will be closing soon so the instructors can order all the special supplies.
Now, back to cutting out pieces for the eddy. 10 pieces per kite plus pockets plus bridle plus dihedral, oh it sounded so simple when I designed it!
Too much to do, no time to panic, what have I forgotten?

Barbara,

Oh that's right! You're teaching a class. It was unfortunately scheduled at the same time as I was scheduled to teach. Oh well, maybe one of these days I will be able to take a class from you. Maybe, if you had an extra kit?? Cost?? Laughing I don't mind staying up to sew. Did I mention I needed to borrow a machine?
