Congratulations Progcraft on being voted Kitebuilder of the Year!

So, what is this new thread about? Well, I am going to Midwest Area Kitemakers Retreat to teach a couple of classes. In the brochure was some information about an envelope decorating contest. I got VERY busy with my pens and created (doodled??!) my art entry.

This is a full layout shot, front and back folded out.

If you look closely at the center bottom arch you should see the words "Midwest Area Kitemakers Retreat". You might have to get out a magnifying glass. I didn't count the number of kites in the stacked arch. But, it could be close to what Progcraft has assembled in his. Also, there is a John Murray inspired kite train, a Gary Engvall inspired Circoflex, a huge Flowform, three Ghost Pyros, various windsocks and spinners, a sport kite demo, a loud speaker system, registration tent, several kite camps, banners, and ground displays. The fighter kite group is waiting their turn for a demo, so they and their kites are still in their camp.

No festival is complete without a crowd. I lost count on how many people and kites that I drew. You can check it out and let me know.

Hope you enjoy this.

Ya know it's amazing just how much stuff is going on in there, and yet and it's in such detail. That's great work Ronda. And yes, the arch is a very nice touch if I do say so myself Embarassed Cool Very Happy Thank you for the compliment. It's most wonderfulll.

Do you really use that as an envelope that you mail your registration form in with??? Where do you put the stamp?
I think I recognize that train of kites with the loop tail and hole in the sai. You said that's John Murray? Didn't that train win someting at the AKA nats? (I'll have to look that up)
So I think that is really just a flash picture of the future. Maybe the upcomeing PIncher Creek festival Smile

Thanks again for shareing the picture Ronda. I'm envious of your drawing abilites.
P.

'"Where's Waldo?" Or is it "Where's Ronda?"

Ronda,

Looking at your wonderful drawing, I realized I goofed up. I didn't sign up for your class. I knew it would be my loss just reading your class description. And following along with your postings I have realized that my loss isn’t limited to not making the fluted sled, it will be not being able to take a class from you.

We can blame Barb! Her fault! Too many good classes to choose from!

But I can live vicariously! My husband is signed up for your class. And let’s make sure were dinner buddies one evening!

That is one thing about workshops. You never know what you will take away from one. A wonderful project kite, a new gadget to buy, a neat technique that your classmate shares, or, best of all, new ideas that you, your classmates, and instructor all brainstorm on from a chance remark!

I am SO looking forward to the MAKR weekend!

Airhead,

Be sure to have your kitebuilder.com/forum namebadge on so I will be able to recognize you. The Phantom and I are really looking forward to MAKR. I hope you are all ready for us!! Just kidding. Have you gotten your mini festival prepared? I have!!! "Warning, Will Robinson, danger, danger!!"

Remember this envelope is a doodle. It was an exercise in composite festival memories recall. Boy, if you can follow that last sentence then you are doing better than I.

The stamp went on the tail of the big windsock. It covered a little of the artwork. I didn't allow enough 'white space'. Oh well, next time I will plan ahead a little better.

Glad you like it. Remember, this is just doodling. Anyone can do this. Especially, if you have a .001 artists marking pen! (And, really strong glasses!)

so, did you really mail it? Hasn't shown up in my mailbox yet!
Did they tell you at MAKR we are reknown for our prizes, everything's a contest.
Oh, and check the list for sat night, Sky Circus is the theme, costumes encouraged, with matching miniature kites even better.
Let the good times fly!

Barb,

Ronda wrote "Have you gotten your mini festival prepared? I have!!! "Warning, Will Robinson, danger, danger!!" ".

If she has "prepared" for the Sky Circus, and the envelope was "just a doodle," we may need a sliding scale for us lackards!

I do have something nice for the raffle, though. Face Ball was asking to go to a few more festivals than what I attend in the midwest (because I have never attended a festival that looked like Ronda's envelope! That looked fun!) and we agreed that he could go into the raffle to attend more festivals.

Bring money for the Raffle, Ronda! He would love to go home with you! And the kids love him! He could bounce right beside your kitemaking tent, and send pictures to me back home!
