A couple of years ago I was driving home (to the beautiful Oregon Coast) when I came around a curve in the road and there was a dead deer on the shoulder. I thought I saw something on top of the deer but it wasn't until I had driven past that I realized it was TWO bald eagles. I couldn't resist. I turned around at the earliest spot I could and headed back in the direction I had just come. I drove past and saw they were still there. I found another spot to turn around at and pulled out the only camera I had in the car, A DISPOSABLE! I drove back and just as I got within picture taking range, the eagles launched into the air. I was driving at 55 mph and was approaching a curve in the road as I was trying to get the picture. I had just enough time to click off one shot. Later, when I finally got the film developed, there in the middle of a sliver of light was two dark dots in the sky, MY BALD EAGLES. At least I knew what they were and the picture wasn't too out of focus. Anyway, I guess this is really supposed to be about football. So, I had better get back on subject or Steve will boot me off to some thread in outer Slovbovia or somewhere like that. Laughing

PS Did the teams do well? I didn't get to watch the whole game. Oh well, maybe next year?!?!?

According to today's Phila. Daily News, McNabb claims he was nauseous during the last minutes of the game and Freddie Mitchell had to call the plays. I guess when you finally realize you're letting your fans and city down, it will get you nauseous.

Guess any excuse is better than none!

Good winds...Charlie

Thank you Kitesquid. Yes, I think a few pics might be inspiring (unlike that football game that everyone wants to whine about). You would be like planting seeds and then hopefully they would germinate into wonderful kite designs. (Isn't that poetic?)

I'll be watching.

Ronda....If you want to make a side trip on your way to Ft Worden...there are many eagles that gather around Skagit county in Washington during February. You can even take a rafting trip down a river to view some of the eagles close up. Some friends did this a couple of weeks ago, and lost count of how many eagle they saw after 70.

We saw some two years ago while driving from I-5 over to La Conner. About 6-10 eagles soaring over the fields. Very nice sight. They also get large flocks of white geese (?) stopping by in the farming fields along the way to La Conner. Many acres of fields get covered with the with birds. Probably too early for any tulips or daffodils to be out in Skagit county, and it may be too late for the eagles.

From LaConner you can head north and west to Whidbey Island, then south thru whidbey and eventually catch a ferry from around Fort Casey over to Pt Townsend.

In all my years of racing up to the Ft Worden Kitemakers Conference I have never thought of taking side trips. Usually, I work until the last minute to leave. This is something we will have to talk about for next year. This year is skrunched because of going to MAKR the next weekend after Ft Worden. Then, a week and a half after MAKR is Lincoln City's second indoor windless kite festival. I will be glad to get some rest after March. Oh, I forgot, then the next weekend (April 2) is inventory in my store and at the same time is the dedication for the new addition to the community center. I am a Parks Board member and am involved in that as well. No rest for the busy. Oh well, gotta go and get my recycling done while I have a day off. Talk to you later.
