Intresting question P, why do you ask? I try not to lean over my cuts cause the smoke and odor is nasty. I try to ventelate the area also.

My friend (who owns a kite company and does repairs, and makes windsocks, but not many kites anymore) says one of the reasons he doesn't hot cut fabric anymore is because it release formaldehyde. (he keeps mentioning that to me)

Hey, thanks for the research Mark.
So there's the answer. Likely to contains small levels of formaldehyde. Interesting.
Cheers,

Hi Mark, thanks for the information. my awareness has now been up-graded. I think I'll put a wisper fan next to my table to move the fumes out.

I heard that hot cutting Orcon (stuff the fighter guys use) can release some toxic fumes. Haven't heard any strong warnings about RSN, though.

I always use a fan aimed at any hot-cutting work. That blows all the fumes away from the area.

IIRC, the greatest majority of the aroma called "that New-Car smell" is primarily made of formaldehyde, from all the vinyl and plastics out-gassing.
After all, if it's such a bugaboo, how come every kid in high-school biology has to smell it all the time they're in class?
Are there any statistics related to Biology and Physiology profs flopping over dead during class??
