Wilsonko,
Welcome to the forum. I'm sure others will also add some explainations, but here are a few links that you can read that will help. These links are all found in the "tech sheet" section of the kitebuilder web page

Applique is cutting out a shape of fabric and sewing it to another piece of fabric.

What most of us do is Reverse Applique, but we missname it Applique as it is easyer to say.

I learnd how to do it in a workshop taut by Jose Sainz.

Reverse Applique is sewing 2 pieces of fabric in a shape and cuttting away the excess fabric.

LOTS of talk here about it.

To see how it is done go to Kai's Kite Site Click on the Applique Workshop and PRINT it out to keep as a refrence.

There was also some at Sportkite.com but I dont see it now......

You can also applique on a paper kite. Applique is applying shapes to a surface. There are bunches of ways to do this.

I stand (or more accuratly, sit) corrected.....

Some refrences on Applique:

Wikipedia

OneLook Dictionary (a dictionary meta search engine that I use daily)

The broadest defention is from Merriam-Webster HERE they define Appliqué as

: a cutout decoration fastened to a larger piece of material
