The Keystone Kiters Winter Retreat is a one day event on January 30th will include a workshop to build small deltas for sale at club events, and then, after a club meeting, each participant will be able to build a tube tail for their personal use. I will be teaching the tube tail and there are two basic sizes to choose from, up to a 35 footer. This is an all day event in Camp Hill, PA, about 5 minutes west of Harrisburg. We'll start about 9 AM making kites for the club and have a club meeting, then move on to making tubes.
I have added some interesting gores to them. For the larger tube, I used six sections of fabric 24 ¼ inches wide x 60 inches long. This will produce a tube over 35 feet long. This is big enough for use with a 252 flow form, the clubs Cop Half or a similar size kite. A smaller tube can be made at half size for smaller kites. This tail will use sections 12 ¼ wide x 54 inches long (or the width of your fabric if it is shorter.) For this shorter tail, you can use four sections for an 18 foot tube or three sections for a 13 ½ foot tail. Both of these lengths can be extended by adding gores, but inflation is a problem with gores in smaller tubes.
There's no charge for the event but you must provide your own materials for the tube and need to be a member of the Keystone Kiters. If you want directions or any more details, let me know. |
