What do you do with your rolls of edge binding when using a binding attachment? _________________ Chris Taylor

Elevate it to attachement feed height with some books and put something heavy in the middle to keep it from falling? Put it in a tape holder? Make some ingenious holder like thing that keeps just enough tension to keep it from unraveling and sets the roll at the proper angle for feeding into the attachment? Go out and buy something already made for this task that I can't seem to find any info on? Lay the roll on the table and hammer down without thinking twice? Anybody have an they use _________________ Chris Taylor

I spool if off into a cardboard box. feed it out the oppisite way that it went in.
There are roll holders avaiable for industrial sewing.... I'll look for one to post a URL here
I forgot what KMac uses in his shop....
Whatever you use the binding material has to feed even and without added tenssion. It also has to feed the same way to the machine so it should not get twisted (read as you should not feed off the side of the roll) _________________ VR/

Oh, I just thought of what I'll be using... Since I was a machinist for a while I still have a few tools of the trade. One of which was a goose neck magnetic base indicator holder. It was used for holding a dial indicator in multiple positions for checking that a part was on x/y axis or various other tasks. Here's a link to one on ebay.

Anyhow the clamp on the end holds a round bar up to 3/16" diameter. So I'll just put in a dowel pin and drill a hole in a round disk of cardboard slip some washers over for the roll diameter difference and viola. Then i can position the binding roll anywhere I need it. _________________ Chris Taylor

Sounds like it will work.
Be carefull to add just a little tension to the roll to eliminate backlash.... _________________ VR/

Sometimes I use one of the paper towel holders that you can set on a counter. Has a long rod so there is no problem pulling off prewound rolls. Other times, I have used a plastic tube--one that served as a container for something I had purchased. This works great for nylon binding you have made yourself as the static electricity holds the fabric to the tube. That tube can also be slipped over the stick on the towel holder. |

The magnetic base sounds like it would work, I use one of my fabric weights which happen to be made out of round metal bar stock about 2" across and 3 or 4" long. Basically these were left overs from a machine shop that have been cleaned up and painted. The holder just needs to be heavy enough so that the machine does not pull the roll toward it, or you could clamp the holder to the edge of the table. _________________ Robkite

Nice setup. Are the water bottle, the pliers, the screw drivers and the lighter necessary?? _________________ Smarties

But of course. one screw driver is for adjusting tension on the bobbin case. The other along with the pair of pliers is for tightening and adjusting the binding attachment. The lighter was there from the other day when I was helping a friend adjust length on some quad lines along with sleeving. And the water is..... well, for me. _________________ Chris Taylor
