|
|
I was thinking today about how hard and pricey it is to obtain this material, here in the states, and also how it's pretty much on the top of the sport kiting industry standards. For us DIY selfers and hobbyists there are only a few places to get this and even then the most reasonable price we can find it for is around $9-$10/yard. What if we got together and ordered a large quantity of it at once. Like a bulk buy. On other forums I'm a member of (car related) they set up bulk buys on products to bring prices down for multiple people interested in the same parts. This could possibly work if enough were interested in this material couldn't it? I'd like to pick up a few different colored rolls if possible and to do that now I'd basically be paying around $1000+/100 yards. So anyhow I'm just posting this idea to see who else would be interested? Post your thoughts/ideas.
Maybe steve could help us out here possibly. Then we'd be guaranteed good service as well. _________________ Chris Taylor

I am in if we can find it
I know that it's manufactured in Japan and then shipped to Eurpoe. As far as I know there is no distributor for the product in the U.S.A or Canada. I beleive what the e-tailers have in stock now is all that is left.. however I could be wrong.
I know in Canada there are some strange duties and tarriffs relating to the country of Origin for textiles, etc. We are lucky now because most of the nylon we use is made in the US and we don't have to worry about it.

IIRC Jon and Marieanne Trennepohl at Sky Burner Kites are the sole importers of Icarex into north america, but I could be wrong.
I would like to see the price drop to around $4 per yard if sombody could get it from the manufacturer..... Steve this is a hint......to get the best polyester kite fabric on the face of the earth!!!!!
But right now the most reliable retail outlet of this fabric is Hang-em High Fabrics and I think they are closed for the holidays.... and the price is up there, I have bought several times from there for my kites.... _________________ VR/

I'd be interest in a big chunk of Black ixy-pc. I use that color on prety much everything. other colors I'd buy are Red, Yellow, blue and white, but not a big qty. maybe 5 or 10 yards of each.
Black I'd take 20 or more depending on what kind of price.

I don't use poly much because of the price and availability. I wonder if DIY stunt kites are a big enough market, since we use less fabric than the giant SLK-stacks-with-laundry folks.
I do wish Steve stocked black, white and a few colors of PC31 or Texlon poly. They're both the same as far as I'm concerned. |

I feel a little wrong about buying fabric that cuts Steve out.
If Steves ok with it, I would be in, depending on price as Squid said. |

In general, if Steve sells an item, or fabric I want, I will go to him first (exceptions are where I had a previous relationship will another seller). If he doesn't carry it, (e.g. certain tools and uncoated Ripstop), I have no problems going elsewhere. The last exception is where I find a "killer deal," but such deals are generally a 1 time thing (e.g. a friend moves and doesn't want to ship his fabric and/or tools) and not going affect my purchases from Steve.
In this case, if Steve does not carry Icarex, and that's what you really want, then I do not see a problem not buying it from Steve, since you can't buy it from Steve.
PS. I would be interesting in bulk ordering as well.

Due to the particulars of international shipping, idealy, this would be through someone like Steve - preferably the big guy himself.
If you can find the vendor, and make the purchase, I can get it picked up in China, flown here, cleared through Customs, and delivered to Steve.
(It's what I do with the rest of my life to pay for kites) _________________ Take care,
