Documentation of the Specific Gravity of Kite Studio's Plastic Stock

ABS = 1.02
Delrin = 1.42
UHMW = .965

Yes, ABS and Delrin both sink in water. UHMW floats.

If it is not too much trouble, maybe you could explain the importance of this info. I am sure there are lots of inquiring minds that would like to know a little more about this. Thanks.

Ronda - Specific gravity is a number that gives the comparitive weight of materials, compared to water at 4° Centigrade. (At 4°C, water is at its densest, and is always the same. In other words, a constant.)
That means that, say, 1 cubic inch of water will have a value of 1.000. Anything with a value greater than 1 is heavier than water, anything with a value less than 1 will float on water.
The numbers by themselves are fairly useless, but by knowing that ABS is 1.02 while Delrin is 1.42, I know that Delrin is about 40% heavier than ABS for any given sized identical pieces. If weight were a major consideration in some thing that I was making, I would certainly consider the notion of making that thing out of ABS, if it met the rest of my design requirements.

Of course there's also the fact that some of us are nerds (as you strongly suspected already Ronda), and and get excited about tech notes and specifications. You know, the type of kids who memerize the atomic weights for all the elements.Wink
