Harold,
My wife and I have been trying to attend this for the past 2 years. Since work has just given us 2 extra personal days starting next year, I'll definitely add this festival to my calendar.
Look for you there. Glad you posted the date.
Good winds....Charlie |

It is a lot of cool kites to see, BTW get there early for a close paking place!!!!
I arrive early enough to help with setting up the fields so I get a cool collector pin for my efforts and did I mention that I arrive early enough to park close????
BTW You may want to arrive early to get a close parking spot....
I hope to see you there with a smile on your face!!!
Also there is an after party for volinteers that you MUST attend, but you must get on the volinteers list to be admited to the party..... so help set up hte fields or terar them down and get a good parking place on the mall...
When I get my Volinteer's sign up sheet I will pass that info on here too!!!! _________________ VR/

Harold:
Thanks for the tips on volunteering and the goodies that it entitles you to.
Should I get there early to get a good parking space? Just playing on your post.

Yes, Unless you want to drive for hours looking for a spot and then haveing to walk 20 blocks downtown DC just to get there...
I recomend you get there early, bring a thermos of coffee and hang out untill the field stuff arrives... Work for 30 miutes setting up and getting a collectable pin!!!!!!!
The added bonus is you get to hang with kite buddies and meet new ones!!!!!
BTW one year the LVKS rented a buss to come down. no parking problemes, they arrived rested and had more time with their kite buddies!!!!! _________________ VR/

Ahhh. No need to arrive before dawn - Just ride the Metro. Drops you off about 100 yards from the field.
I plan to be there again this year. Wouldn't miss it. It's a one-of-a-kind event.

Charlie (and anybody else who is interested),
Here is a link for an interactive map:

The Blue and Orange lines both stop on the Mall at the Smithsonian. The outer stations have parking lots which I believe are free on weekends. Click on any station for information about that station and a link to a map.
See you there!

I plan to be there, and I am even planning to enter a kite in the kitebuilding contest! It'll be my first kitemaking contest entry. It's interesting, I compete in sport kite competitions all the time, don't get nervous at all, but for some reason, the thought of someone judging my workmanship is really nerve-racking. _________________ Marc
