So that, another Della Porta
It has a size of 40"x60", NRS, .236" carbon fiber tube (6 mm) and applique sewed, not removed fabric on back side.

Applique on a white background does not need to be removed on the backside. (Unless you are trying to shave off weight.)
Looks very nice!! AND it flies!! _________________ [

Ten years later these forums are still a great inspiration.
I have built a 6 foot Genki and a couple others based on plans found here,
but this Della Porta turned out just as advertised.
It is about 3/4 size and everything everyone said was true.
Bridle adjustments were critical for steady flight.
The fuzzy tail worked best as one loop(no twisting).
My pinwheel idea flew more steady than the tail and added great eye appeal.
(The grey panels in photos are really white.)

Hello Wally and welcome to the group!
Nice looking Della Porta there, I for one would be interested in hearing a little more about your pinwheels. _________________ Kip Clement

What nckiter said +1
I assume the pinwheels are counter rotating. Clever They really enhance the overall appearance of the kite "tail" combo.

Pinwheels... so that's what they are. I couldn't tell from the picture if they were part of the main kite or not.
Welcome and thanks posting on the forums and giving the community some feedback. _________________ Make big kites so you can make bigger mistakes... |

Thanks for the welcome.
Yup! Counter rotating and made from dowels glued in a big wooden die from some game set that was lying around. Drilled for the dowels with a wire fishing leader and swivel. Seems to have just the right drag to stabilize the kite. _________________ Wally here! |

Actually, Pinwheel is the name of the quiltwork pattern used for the kite.
Nice to see the play on words to make the "tails"! Lots of action! Um, how do you stabilize them enough to keep from going back and forth causing all sorts of mayhem?
I wonder if one could put several pinwheels inline... _________________ [

They are on a 12 inch twisted wire fishing leader and seem to hold steady once in the air. Tend to get tangled in the bridle and line on the ground if I'm not careful though. _________________ Wally here! |
